Very nice Scott. Is the Terran Consensus doing well enough to do a second book??

It's doing okay and I'd like to do a second book (I've had the basic idea for it for a long time). But I think right now I will concentrate on getting more Martian novels done. Sadly, I'm just one person and can only write so fast I'm writing the Battle of Albuquerque as we speak

Any idea on the number of maps? Great to hear its on track for the November (?) release. My Nam buddy, who played his first game this past Historicon, loved the book. Makes my holiday shopping much easier.

I'm thinking 3 or 4 maps. I'll draw them up while I'm waiting for the editor to get back to me.

They grow a certain local variety of green chilie pepper near Albuquerque that might give human troops so "equipped" the ability to conduct gas assaults against the Martians. I was going to volunteer to help with maps. I am glad I didn't, right now because I haven't the attention span to accomplish anything.

There are some amazing reference sources on-line. I've found maps of just the territory I'm interested in for the exact years.

That is wicked good. It appears you can find just anything on the internet if you take the time to look.Should be very good battle maps.

Oh yes, the Internet is an amazing reference source for a writer! I'm a stickler for detail and I make sure that stuff is right even if the reader will never know. For example once in Book 1 and another time in Book 2 something is happening at night and I wanted to know what the phase of the moon would be. A quick Google search and I had it. In the current book I needed to know if there were any hurricanes in the Caribbean during a certain month. The Weather Service has a set of maps showing hurricanes and tropical storms and their paths going back over a hundred years! Google Earth is also a great reference source. With the photo links I can get a good feel for the landscape in areas where my story takes place. And, of course, I can find backgrounds on all the historical characters I include.

Yes, I agree with Scott. I do a lot of research on various topics via internet to base my TO&Es and OOBs on. Things like deck layouts for ships, aircraft appearance, 1910 census for the various towns and cities, NOAA and NWS for historical weather records for example. All this for a game! Good mind exercises and fun as well.

You think I could find conditions along the Mississippi River - say spring 1914?

Well I haven't really worried much about day-to-day weather conditions. That might be a little too much detail But I'm sure there's data available if you look.
