The water effects turned out really well. Your conversion has inspired me to get started on my Royal Navy monitor. Photocopied the side and top views of three small WWI monitor classes today and will get them enlarged to HO scale this week. I may blend the designs to get something that is clearly RN but unique to the 'Martian War'. My Land Ironclad arrived Friday; I may incorporate some of it's turrets, the bridge/spotting top and funnel like you did but will use resin copies. The bridge/spotting top will be shortened to about 25mm (1"). Following RN practice it will be on a tripod, with the funnel immediately behind it. Look forward to seeing it!

The Dominator has a 'missile' pod, which allows it to automatically hit (guided) vs rockets. If you want a piece thats looks almost exactly like the 'original' see Old Glory 15mm tab 15mm Command Decision tab WW2 tab Weapons Packs the UB-32 (CDmw-05) looks like the piece AD used for the model (coming from Old Glory is probable). But, I agree, you don't want a look-alike, it was pretty unMartian like & I look forward to you 'missile pack'. One of the frightning things about the Dominator missiles was, per the book, the ability to use a Scout to 'paint'a target with its targeter, and the missiles having unlimited range to that target!! Ships just got very vulnerable!! I plan on using a couple of those CD weapons on trucks as early 'rocket' batteries. We might not have the interface to make the missiles work right, but we can sure use them as rockets.

Just 25 inches with maybe scout targeting bonus.

My bad - pg 119, I somehow thought it was unlimited range if painted. Gads, youse folks must think I'm losing it - guess I am, thus the 'mad' tag. Please forgive my ravings. The riverine/coastal ships are somewhat safe on that basis. But, the part about the missile pod is accurate - the CD line has one that looks very much like it. More coffee me thinks!

I looked at rocket pods. I see the resemblance. The metal probably to heavy to mount on a supporting arm like that of the black dust launcher.
Do know of any sites that have HO scale navy figures?

Michigan Toy Soldier carries a huge range of figures in 22mm/HO style figures. Zvedra makes some nice stuff, as well as Emhar, HaT, Revell. My favorite for the Germans is RVL-2525 @$7.99 for 51 figures - less if you have the MI T S 10% discount. HaT probably has the better selection. michtoy.com btw Tamiya paints at that site is having a monthly (ends Tue) 20% off sale on their spray paints.

Old Glory has some AQ sized figures in their colonial line that might work - see 15SCB-27; British Heliograph Party 6 figures for $6 retail only $3.60 with the Old Glory Army card. Three of the figures are particularly crew like - a standing officer with binoculars, a kneeling figure taking notes on a pad, and a standing figure with a binocular case in hand. Two of the other figures might work as well, the standing figure with the actual heliograph and a kneeling figure sighting through a tripod instrument. The final figure is a kneeling, pointing figure with a rifle. There are not a lot of other available. I could only find a 4 man gun crew on their Colonial Gunboat (very expensive for just 4 figures unless you want to use the boat itself of coarse). They do have some 15ACW-046 & 047 Union & Confederate gunners which could be mixed in. You could also 'press' some of the additional artillery crew figures from WW1 sets into your ship. Finally, check out 15AMX-107, US Artillerists who at $8 retail for 12 figures, has a good look with a proper paint job to make them naval.

Well by 1916 helmeted naval figures would be a 'normal' situation I would think - with gasmasks on their chests if not worn. I'd think you would rather keep your AD gasmask figures in infantry units and use alternate figures for your naval forces (after all one ships worth). I've been pressing S2G to make some naval figures (they all wear gasmasks). Also see Black Hat Miniatures (all 18mm/AD scale) British Expedition Gatling Artillery for four naval figures without gasmasks (blackhat.com EMP276 for 3GBP ($1.40 = 1GBP, but check shipping) as well as their British Expedition Artillery for four naval figures (sunhelms with gasmasks - EMP275 for same price). Either of these ordered in number (say 3 in case you want a ground battery) will get you a nice mix of types for your ship. All three companies (Old Glory, S2G, and Black Hat) make AD scale figures (18mm). I look forward to the maiden engagement as the USS Ashbury roars into action. Cheers!

Finished the water effects for my USS Weston. I have a few crewman nearly painted. They would have been done but my Army Painter soft tone varnish is now a jellied mass. Suppose I should have sealed the can tighter. Also partially completed Dominator.

What an awesome model! What color do you plan for the naval crew and officers?

Gads! Couldn't those be 'summer' & shorts uniforms. Heck, even the Brits used khaki. How about naval blues?? Or something closer to the ships paint color. Nah, navy blue. Look at some of the color plates for the period. Hmmm, maybe white it is, hmmmm.
