In the epilogue from War of the Worlds, HG Wells wrote, "and the generator of the Heat-Rays remains a puzzle. The terrible disasters at the Ealing and South Kensington laboratories have disinclined analysts for further investigations upon the latter. " So the potential for Atom Bombs exists.

My son loves the Americans, who doesn't like all of the vehicles and equipment. I've painted up a lot of WWI early war British as Canadians and converted a FoW TOG as a Sir John A. MacDonald heavy tank ( A Johnnie Tank)- eq. to a Baldwin. We are going to green stuff gas masks on our French. Lots to do.
Its great to see Martian Front going international.
How are you making the Prussians? I was thinking of using the Black Hat Prussians. And I do like Eureka for many WWI figures. I found a caster on Shapeways making some early WWI airplanes, very interesting. Also someone making early WWI trucks (although I do like the Flivvers).
Everyone please keep the rest of the forum advised of what you are doing, games you've played, scenarios etc. maybe we can show someone with a pocketbook that it can be a viable game system.
Cheers Kev

Yes - don't forget to check out Slaves2Gaming. Their a great Australia firm startup doing gasmasked British and Prussian troops. They look great and will save you hours of putty! They've got a good schedule of troops on the way and have Infantry and HMG units as we speak available. I have been using ZiS 5s and ZiS 6s (Old Glory under the True North tab) for my fill in trucks. I've even added HMGs to the ZiS 6 'windows' for a HMG Flivver (4 x HMGs, 2 per side). Could actually mount one on top if necessary (regular HMG crew) - use it for HQ security mainly. Or as part of a 3 Flivver convoy of 75mm (FA) artillery. One truck carries crews, one ammo, (both ZiS 5s as covered) and the HMG ZiS 6 as security. Enjoy! Glad your son is into it as well all good!

I checked out slave 2 gaming. Really nice looking figures. The gasmask cavalry seem like a nice touch. I wasn't going to Germans for a while but while walking on the treadmill I thought of how/why/where The German Empire would fit in. Pursuant to the Monroe Doctrine, there is no way that even a hard pressed U.S.A. would allow Germany to bring troops into South America. However I could see a large German force sort of a German Expeditionary Force, in the continental U.S. thus freeing up American troops liberate Central and South America. I would also see the Kaiser not being able to stand his ground like John Pershing did and keep his troops as one command. German troops could be included in with American forces. (Also a good chance to purchase slave 2 gaming Germans!) I also took at look at natural resources. Europe was heavily dependent upon on African and Asian resources. The Europeans could not let their colonies go. Again German forces could be sent to east and South-West Africa. The British could not let South Africa go. Much of Africa between the Congo and Algeria was not as cost efficient, but still would be a buffer between the Mediterranean and the Martians. Indo China, India and Indonesia are also very important.
I also found a company out of the U.K. called Conqueror Miniatures that make all sorts of 15mm steam tanks. They are well priced. Ironclad miniatures makes a 28mm steam tank that looks convertible to a large 15/18mm steam tank. plus there are all of the regular ww1 figures, Irregular, Eureka, Minifigs, Peter Pig etc.
I hope this gives some food for thought.

To the Monroe Doctrine point: The survival of humanity was not at stake when the Monroe Doctrine was propounded. Besides, there is probably not enough "slack" in the US forces to divert troops to an enforcement action.
The fight for species survival will create some strange bedfellows. More recently. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
PS: I second madmorgan's suggestion on the Slave2gaming Prussians. They are nicely done miniatures.

Slave2Gaming needs to get it's name 'out there' so to speak. I'm not all that connected but can certainly do my best to give them a plug. As for Germany, MF timeline, do they have the logistical 'tail' to project world wide power? Here I am talking about Martians and what not and worried about logistics! I think they need to be closer to home, Turkey, Persia, Palestine or somewhere with lots of support and infrastructure, U.S.A. As always just open for discussion. kev

Germany was able to project power in modest ways. They had colonies in East Africa and the Pacific. In 1902 they nearly went to war with the United States over their attempts to project power in Venezuela (in violation of the Monroe Doctrine). In my second novel we will see them do that again with Roosevelt's very reluctant permission

Well, now that I'm writing this without any oversight from, or commitments to, Ernie, I am much freer to discuss what I'm doing with you folks! So I might well throw out some ideas from time to time and see what you think

Hmmm, perhaps I spoke too quickly. There is the whole copyright issue. If I start making use of other people's ideas I'm leaving myself open for lawsuits and such. Have to give this some thought...

As I see it, the Martians have three major strategic weaknesses. Almost blindspots, really.
First is water. Especially large bodies like the Mississippi, the Great Lakes, and the oceans. Mars is a cold, dry planet, so the utility of moving supplies and troops by water is out of contex to them. I would expect any successful offensive to involve flanking the Martians vja the Great Lakes. Memphis held out not by force of arms, but by the massive river Martians had to cross.
Second is air. Flight, other than new drones, which may be a response to witnessing human flight, Martian technology is strictly *ahem* terrestrial. It doesn't get off the ground. The militarization of the vertivle dimension should take Martian High Command completely off guard.
Finally, it is the wheel. The source document describes how Mars never invents the wheel. Thus they should consistently underestimate the speed in which trains, autosteamers, and flivvers can move. Light troops, mounted on wheeled vehicles with sufficient anti-tripod weapons should wreck havoc in the Martian rear areas.
Thus, the strategic concept for a winning Human counter-offensive is born.
