Well, I've been tracking the price of the WotW Tripod on Amazon Card and decided to pick it up when the price dropped to $54. I had an Amazon gift card left from Christmas, so my out of pocket expense on the model was only about $20. Hard to beat that deal! This model was released as a 144 scale machine, but I think it should be quite usable as an Overseer tripod for AQMF. It is just over twice the height of the All Quiet models, but I think this serves my purpose...since it can "over-see" everything happening on the battlefield. I'll be using it in a large table game early next month and will report back on how it goes. In the meantime, though, I just finished building it tonight. Paint job will have to come later in the week. UPDATE: Hmmm...I don't know why these are posting like this. If anyone knows how to rotate them clockwise, I'd appreciate the insight!

Nice job on the model. It is a kit from Pegasus Hobbies (No 9005). Even comes with handy baskets for captives. Also available from CultTVman in Atlanta, GA.
It is one of the tripods from the 2005 remake of War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning star). The movie played pretty loose with the WotW storyline: set in US;Martians hiding underground for decades. Germs still got 'em in the end. And the HUMVEEs and M1 Abrams did not work any better against Martians than Flivvers and steamtanks did. Really omnious looking tripods, though.

I actually thought the 2005 movie was more with the spirit of the novel than the 1950's version. But I would definitely like to see a movie set in the actual period.

Great! I should have participated in the audio production kick starter.

Yes. The 1953 version (with Gene Barry) was WAY off the line. The manta-ray shaped flying machines used by the Martians did look pretty cool, though. Wells' Martians were just getting ready to go airborne, working on a flying machine when the germs got them.

Yes, once again the forcefields make the Martians near unstoppable - a point I make for using them in any WW2 version we dream up here at the forum. Not sure about an airborne Tripod, that would truly be a monster! Will get the Pegasus model, if not for AQ just cause its great.

I gave in and bought one! Should be a snap to get the lights inside!

Lights-Yes. An outfit called MadMan Lighting (also from CultTVman) has a lighting kit that is available for this model. If you don't feel confident in designing it yourself, I have had very good results with their products.

Well, I already have lights in all my other tripods, so I'm sure I'll figure out this one, too. Maybe some sort of laser pointer for the Sun Gun...
