Sad news, and my condolences go to his family and friends. A great loss to the community, and I would urge everybody here to keep his spirit alive by going back to the many posts he made.

Bought a lot of this when it originally came out, and got the pdfs of the new stuff through the Kickstarter... definitely worth looking at!

Having watched this on YouTube several weeks ago, I did then watch it on BBC. Posted the following on the War of the Worlds Facebook page...
OK, my two penneth on the BBC WotW debate... whilst I didn't dislike it, I didn't like it. Some good visuals, particularly the fighting machines, but the Martians themselves were rubbish. Some good scenes, but really didn't like the flash forward moments. And I felt that there were a lot of elements from the book, but that they put them in a blender, and shared the result between the characters. I would have preferred them to stick more closely to the original details of the Martian invasion, but tell the story of different characters than the ones in the book, so satisfying the purists, but giving them the opportunity to tell "their story".

I think Ernie Baker had the idea of making AQMF a thing like warhamster, with several factions all at war with each other. Prey, Martians Selenites (moon men) Venusians and Morlocks. To me, there are enough silly warhamster clones. (Zero is the right number.) Please keep the suspension of disbelief to a reasonable level. No walking tanks. No flying saucers/anti gravity vehicles. Please let the grunt with a rifle and a heart continue to be the hero. Agreed! If you read my novels, that's the tack I try to take. I second these sentiments... leave the steampunk to the other games, AQ is so much fun as it is. And Scott's books are a must for any AQ fan!

Right now the German vehicles are based on the A7V, Leichter Kamphwagon II, Sturmpanzerwagon Oberschlesien, and an armored car either the Daimler Model 1915 or the Ehrhardt E-V/4. But they are all just a starting point. Lovely! So no tanks with legs! I am relieved One of the big draws for me about this game is the fact that it tries to stay "realistic" rather than go down the steampunk route. It would be disappointing to see Human tripods or walking tanks, please leave that to other games...

The SPACE 1889 game had a number of books that were excellent source material for the Victoriean Era. Now they are out of print, but probably available as used items. They also had a number of pre-fab adventures to start the juices flowing. Characters, settings, steam technologies, the whole thing. I will have to think on that makes a good VSF storyline. It is not an easy job to create one from scratch. But the features that make up a good adventure story should carry over from any genre. You may be able to modify one. Having got the vast majority of the old Space 1889 stuff, it always struck me as a very well researched game from a background point of view, with a lacklustre rules system. There was an excellent article years ago entitled Cthulhu 1889, which combined the fluff of Space 1889 with the CoC rules, which worked well (and combined two of my favourite games). They have been doing the revamped Space 1889 recently (another Kickstarter I just had to have), but I haven't as yet got into it in any detail. Worth checking out. And Sky Galleons of Mars will always be one of my most favourite games... it works so well!!

We've played a couple of games with the LIC, but can't remember the points we used. You can see the forces in the pictures HERE, and the battle reports tell what happened. And I have two of THESE to play with soon... HUZZAH for HMLS Primrose Hill!

Got it on Audible... it's worth a read (or listen), and it is an interesting take as a follow up.

From what little I can gather about the series it will be set in the Victorian era as the original novel but probably not following the same story line. I could be very wrong but it will feature main characters caught up in the invasion but not mentioned in the novel. It is still a little confusing, as I've seen it's a little later (Edwardian), and the couple at the centre of the story are a married man and the woman he is having an affair with. The woman is supposed to be a "very strong woman", and my worry is that the BBC are going all PC on the story. There's a fan page on Facebook with lots of info, but it's a closed group. Let me know and I'll invite you...

Latest info from a guy in the know, in response to a lot of bickering on a WotW Facebook group...
Concerning the BBC series of The War of the Worlds. There is no official release date for the series because there has been NO official release date. All because a few seconds appear in a show reel is NOT an advertisement that the series is out in a matter of weeks time. If the BBC had released a trailer stating the following "The War of the Worlds - Out January 2019" then there is a reason to show concerns over to why the month has passed and no broadcast. Is the series in trouble? NO. Why do those think that it is? Because the BBC have not released a broadcast date? I will address the comments made about the production from the DigitalSpy article. They state that the production has been in the works since 2015. That may very well be the case in terms of "shall we do an adaptation of TWOTW?"), but 2015 was NOT the start of the production date as the copyrights to H.G.Wells The War of the Worlds novel was STILL under copyright laws. The copyright expired on the 29th December 2016. It was announced that the screenplay was under way in 2017 and with the BBC and other production companies contracted to other productions the principal filming of The War of the Worlds could not start until April 2018 and wrapped in late May. Bearing in mind that the main actors are contracted to OTHER film productions, such as Rafe Spall with Universal Pictures for Jurassic World II. Post-production on this series is clearly time consuming given the level of special effects needed. There is also the sales of the series outside of the UK which has exceeded 80 countries. These countries require the series to be edited for them, language for example, and the potential for disc sales which we already know the series is earmarked for, at present, a release in the UK on disc. The War of the Worlds is not the only production that the BBC are releasing as their showreel includes many other programmes that have yet to be given a broadcast date, TWOTW is include in this lot of programming. Is the series in trouble? Well if people take onboard what paying sites publish as fact, that is their prerogative. Afterall these sites are paid for reporting - what ever the story is. The BBC and production companies involved have invested far too much in the series and will have it released when it ready and the BBC have finally come up with a workable broadcast date. Fans willing it to be released sooner than later is not helping. That is a personal choice and the production companies investing in such a series are less concerned about peoples impatience and more concerned over finishing and finalising the production in the right manner. Is the series coming out? YES When? Only the BBC know the answer to that question. Until then we ALL have to wait for the news and as the BBC have NOT released any broadcast dates there is really no concern as the showreels are just that, showreels to show what is in store and coming soon from the BBC. I am contact with the production company involved with the series. They are fully aware of the fan base as much as they are fully aware of the production of the series. As they are contracted they CANNOT release ill-informed information about a *possible* release date because that goes against their contractual agreement. They promised to keep me updated. I can only go by their promise and as of yet there is no news on a broadcasting date because the series has yet to be finalised for broadcasting.

I seem to recall from the "Hornblower Companion" that Horatio's grandson commanded a dreadnought at Jutland, so in this timeline it's entirely reasonable to see him commanding a land ironclad! You are right Scott... there's a family tree in it that I used to get the relationship right. Part of my Hornblower collection, as I'm a bit of a fan.
