Well it's launched and I hope it does well. But it is too expensive for me, the rulebook is dearer than what I pay for GW ones and the fact there are no shipping costs stated without even thinking about the import charges. Luckily I have loads still unpainted from the 1st edition and I didn't have a problem with the rules especially with all the info on this forum. I find myself in the same position regarding the price, and I too have plenty of 1st edition to play some very big battles! I also have a concern about the change in the story. One of the things that attracted me to the game originally was the rich backstory that was set up. From the KS description it appears that the original invasion has moved from 1898 to 1904, and the second invasion from 1908 to 1917. It looks like WW1 was in full flow when the second invasion landed. It may be a good story, but I still love the original, especially when you add in Scott Washburn's excellent novels. And I'm a little nervous about the following... "Humanity has not been idle either. Scavenging the remains of the Martian's previous attacks, Humans too have learned. while most of the secrets of the Martian technology remain unfathomable, human ingenuity have enabled mankind too to invent new weapons of war and improving existing ones." I really hope that the "new weapons of war" don't include human walkers. Whilst I do like steampunk walking tanks, this game does very well without them. I wait to see.....

Torn between getting cheap models for the game or telling the Chinese were to stick their models! Hope the fluff does not change much.
I agree with the fluff comment - possibly the only thing that Alien Dungeon got right was the backstory. Add to it, enhance it, but please no changes.

I would like to see a good game system attached to the rich storyline we already have. I would like to see that storyline expanded in areas that weren't covered as much in the original release. I would like to see new units to add to the extensive collection I already have - updated to put the new owner's stamp on it, but not so different that mixing old and new would look odd.
What I don't want to see is the game go down the steampunk route... NO HUMAN TRIPODS! Yes, the Humans would try to investigate, adapt and use captured Martian technology, and we should see some small advancements, but nothing major. But in time, if the Humans survived, they might make some more major advances, but not for this game. Look at what happened to Liverpool when they tried to investigate the Martian engines.
One of the big joys of this game for me is the believability of the setting. Humans can never match the Martian technology, but they are fighting for their lives and have superior numbers on their side. They are doing all they can with what they have to fight for their continued existence.

Now if someone would just make a movie (series) from my Great Martian War novels... I'm thinking Netflix series, and with you as executive producer so they can't screw it up!

If you have the SyFy channel, you'll be pleased to know there is a new version of our favourite story... 2021 War of the Worlds
I lasted about 10 minutes before I hit the fast forward button... oh dear!

I picked up a copy of the Action! Classics book sometime ago, and that is definitely worth a read. With 5E rules popping up all over the place, I'm sure it wouldn't take too much to adventure in the worlds of our esteemed colleague, Mr Scott Washburn. Personally I have always had a bit of a yearning to role play sometime after the initial invasion, where the Martians rule the Earth, and the Artilleryman wasn't a dreamer... Brave New World.

I noticed the Abbey Normal Publishing website has gone - is this a bad omen?

Sorry, as much as I love Space 1889 (and I still have all the original stuff I bought way back when, have all of the reissued stuff from the KS and play Sky Galleons whenever I can), in my opinion Humans shouldn't have anything "steampunk". I don't feel that they would be able to reverse engineer Martian tech very quickly, but they will eventually (and that will be for a future game maybe?). The balance of the game is the vastly superior technology of the Martians against the vast difference in numbers the Humans have.

hardlec, I've seriously thought about trying a paper land ironclad, especially the navy version as described in my book. Not sure I could pull it off, but maybe someday. Stop it now Scott, I already have some of your buildings and will be ordering more later next year when AQ gets going again. And I've got my eye on your 6mm European town & village range for my Battlegroup NorthAG table that will be my first project of 2021.

A little biased on this, but it has to be the Revenge Class Land Ironclad that I helped to create...

Hi Guys, So, I'm still here, but not doing much with AQ until there's more info about where it's going. Been playing Battlegroup: NorthAG (Cold War wargaming) and Hellboy Board Game recently, both fantastic games. Got the Stargate SG-1 RPG, Hellboy RPG and Nemo's War coming next year thanks to Kickstarter. Plenty to keep me going. However, as a lifelong War of the Worlds, I will be ready for AQ 2021. And to help ramp things up, next year I will be going to see The Immersive Experience in London. A friend an I were supposed to go this year, but thanks to the larger lurgee, it was put on hold. Now they are rebooking for 2021, and to say thank you for sticking with them, we get to go twice. Once in March and the second visit will be on the 12th August... Watch this space for a review...

Some of you have probably seen this on Facebook, but I thought I'd share it here. This is probably the best analysis of Thunder Child I have seen, and really makes sense. All we need now is for some good artists to come up with some images based on the design... HMS Thunder Child

" Most of the parts for the Land Ironclads are done and we are just starting on producing a run of the turrets." I would love to buy just the turrets for my own home grown Land Ironclad, I hope that will be an option. Please!!! Don't know if this will help, but have a look at the LIC parts HERE
