It's a bit more complicated than that And the French (and especially Funston) aren't trying to help the Martians defeat the US. Far from it.

Not that the Texas/French alliance(?) is pro Martian. But in the last book President Roosevelt does seem worried that General Funston is pursuing a different agenda then provided by the command in Washington. As demonstrated when Funston abandons the southern Mississippi River defensive line.

Yes, that is true. The Texas Front book explores that in detail. The manuscript for TF is in beta reading right now. Still shooting for a summer release.

Also interested in the French contribution to the fight as far as weapons and tactics.

Hmmm, well maybe its all about survival. I think at this point the Texans would be glad to forgo a 'second republic' for surviving the invasion. There will be plenty of time to 'second' later. At least, that is the view I take on the matter. I'm sure you all know my ideas on the matter, including the TO&Es for various French forces and the battles I project for them. The Tea Tosser is so ridiculous that it's just fun to have on the table - and, it's pretty awesome first few shots as well. As the Texans don't have a lot of long-range AoE artillery, it fills a niche. Besides, I've got the model and dang it, I'm going to use it!
