Whilst working on 'fixing' the various HMG MG problems in my various threads, I was reworking the TX Recon battalion and hit upon something that seems obvious to me but might be too radical, until a 2nd edition rule book is ever printed (IG). That is the way the flivvers/trucks work in AQ. Despite the whole movement, dismount issue, there is another one that is quiet but pervasive. The fact that you can slap a MG or Gun on the back of one, admittedly for some points, and it still counts as a non-combatant (ei 0 BP). This works very well in favor of the humans as not only can you tow that FA battery, but you've got a full strength, somewhat mobile MG squad as well. True, they can't climb into the trenches, but at least they have the same firepower as a MG squad. At 45 points (USA), its a good deal. My point is (don't flay me humans!) that a MG or Gun truck should be counted as a unit and part of the BP total. Maybe AQ didn't want to got through the torment of having mixed units (1 truck with MG, others without?) or just didn't explore the importance of that. Or, maybe they favored the human players somewhat? Who knows. But, I purpose that for 2nd edition and for those of you exploring other options in AQ, that All Armed Flivver/Truck elements count as unit(s) and toward the final BP total. I'll be adding this to the Living Rulebook as an optional rule, although if & when IG does a new edition they might want to look at the whole truck/flivver rules (including the transport part).
As I've not played much in other rule systems - how do other rule sets handle the truck mount/dismount idea. I'll be rereading my MicroSquad and MicroArmor rules for their use - how do FoW or Bolt Action handle such things??
As I see it, there is a large advantage to the Gun Truck towing an FA battery. You pay 80 for the FA guns and another 75 for the gun trucks - getting two batteries for 5 points less. I purpose that Gun Trucks cannot pull guns as well.
In any case, here is two unit stats based on the Flivver having MG & Gun mounts.
(3)Flivver @15 + MG @30 = 45 points/1 unit
(3)Flivver @15 + Gun @60 = 75 points/1 unit *gun trucks cannot pull batteries of guns - too much weight already.
Both of these count toward BP totals.
