Aside from the fabulous lack of instruction for a very unintuitive kit that could be made with way fewer parts, I've hit a snag with the field guns. How do you actually mount the field gun barrel onto the cart? From what I can see there are no holes for it. Do you have to drill out the spots yourself?

Yes. I've built 6; some of them had the holes drilled and some didn't.

Yes. You can see in the pic where they are supposed to be!

Ugh. I thought that might be it, but it's ridiculous you have to do it. Terrible kit.

Ha, I wouldn't call myself a modeler if that wasn't a regular part of my repertoire!

Just one word: ACETONE

Right - I had to soak one gun in acetone when it went together wrong and had to be taken apart and rebuilt.

Acetone is cheap - nail polish remover at your local Dollar Store/Walmart etc vs paying the high price of 'branded' "Dezapper" stuff. Use your own cheap spray bottle if needed.

You will be shot out of your own guns!!! They were a pain in the ass to build and two batteries were more than enough for me.

Well, billf, with only two batteries built, I'd suggest a large investment in mobile artillery. With IG remaking the 6', Conquerors 8", and S2Gs new ones coming, you should have a nice mobile choice vs the towed guns. And with Conquerors nice 'loose' 5" gun turrets from their ICL, you can add trench turrets to your heart desire. For fixed positions, this is a preferred alternative to the problems of towed FA & HFG batteries.
This does bring up the question: with the increase of caliber of trench guns (the 5" turrets), do you use the AD rule book points (turret = + per gun size) or should you use the New Artillery Rules points with a turret charge (+25 points for the turret)??

Two batteries of heavy artillery is nothing to laugh at. However, I also have two batteries of mobile artillery as well.
I think a gun tower with a 5" gun should cost more than one with a 4" gun.

Agreed - I initially used the chart in the AD rule book, pricing the 5" gun there and then adding the +25 points for the turret. Don't have the figures in front of me. See also the thread "New Artillery Rules", which raise the cost in points due to the adjustment of ranges & AoE extra dice to hit change. I know this starts to sound confusing, so give me a moment & I'll try and do a 5" trench turret point cost, using the "New..." table.
