This posting has nothing to do with our miniatures game. I just have to say that it was very hard to watch a talented bunch of English footballers fall into such poor form. It has been amazing to watch Iceland with it just over 330,000 people product a team that fights so hard to win. With part-time players no less. The team captain a dentist, the goalie a photographer - the whole team is a part-time version of the Icelandic Militia, Vikings all (just look at the names!). There was 8% of the nations population there to cheer on their team and at home they have 20 hours daylight currently to celebrate their winning. I know the English will recover and show much better in the years to come - for now I'll set back and watch S...thorinson and Grund... continue to inspire all nations, no matter how small, to greatness. You can't help but pull for them against France! Goooooaaaaaallllll!

It was wonderful to see the arrogant English lose to a team they should have beaten handily. Shows what happens when you think all you have to do is show up.

I don't think it was arrogant, I think it was more poor planning and the shock of the early goal due to a normally Hart messing up. In any case, the benefit is that they'll have a new coach next time around (yeah) with better and fresher planning. Roy put out a poor team - he should of put his best out to insure an early lead - my 4-3-3 choice would of been Coleman, Cahill, Stone, Ramsey or Smalling and ; Rooney, Rose, Walker in middle; Vardy, Kane, Rashford up front; the subs would of been Sterling, Sturridge, Alli, Dier, Wilshire, and another Goal Keeper - just in case Hart got hurt Or Had A Bad Day. I'm sure there were some other subs I didn't mention, but basically this lineup would of been a much better one to get behind the tight Iceland defense and force play more onto the opponent, whilst keeping a solid back line of defenders. It was probably the most unfortunate part of the English team that Vincent Kompany was out injured for the entire thing. His skills in the back defense would of made a difference. It was weird watching him as a commentator, knowing that with no Netherlands team in the 24, he would of played for England (Manchester City captain, awesome in organization of and playing defense). Anyway there is my 2 cents worth on the matter. Iceland deserved the win. With a fresh coach replacing Roy Hodgson with only 33 wins in 56 games (58.9%) as England, there needs to be a fresh start. The talent is there in the players. A new coach should be able to unlock it. BTW I predict this is the last appearance of Rooney in an international role. Once his passing ability goes, he's just too slow for the game despite his great heart for it all. And his well known temper, dampened by his recent successes as a number '10' will start to get the better of him once he's unable to perform as he once did. Let's see what happens - there is a new Premier League season coming up and who knows what gems will appear from the newly promoted teams, as last years crop was sublime. Rashorn, Vardy, Kane. For now I look forward to Iceland/France and Wales games - I doubt Frances coach will underestimate the Iceland team.
