Here are two additional Martian tripods of 2nd Generation design. In fact, the second one is almost 3rd Generation. BTW - Scott, how many generations of Martians you think have been created since the landing?? Both these are from suggestions by other forum members - shout out if they're yours as I've limited time on the machine to find the authors. Hope they meet your expectations.
Sniper Tripod 1 element = 1 unit @400 points. Speed 4" Defense 5 Armor 11 Special: Bombardment; Railgun Railgun Range 100" +6 Power Barrage 1 Special: Super Heavy Gun, roll 2d10 on any special damage table taking highest result (example Golioth, LIC). I think billf mentioned this one as one of his McD specials. I would think you might like to limit this to one per 1000 points of Martians (inclusive).
Shield Tripod (aka Jellyfish) 1 element = 1 unit @500 points. Speed 6 Defense 5 Armor 11/14* Special: *Force Field for +3 Armor; Force Field Projectors. (2) Force Field Projectors Range 12" +3 Power* Barrage - Special: may project the +3 Armor of its force field to another target. At the end of each turn, roll a d10 with a "1" indicating a fluctuation in the field, dropping the shield till the next Martian movement phase (when it comes back up). The FFP can also be modulated to act as a weapon with same range and power for attacking enemy units, but its either shielding or firing not both. [may fire 2 shots of + 3 power each, but no protection of friendlies if you shot.] I think this is a fair version of the force field tripod someone mentioned. It allows you to shield a few tripods (Slaver, Harvester, etc), but still has some kinks to work out (the d10 roll). I would think you should limit this to one per 2000 points of Martians (inclusive). How to mark the shielded tripod and its targets is up to our modeling folks out there. I'll submit ideas later on this thread. Enjoy!
I feel like such a traitor to my fellow human players with these two, especially the Sniper... "Incoming!!"

A nice implementation of the concept of next gen Tripods there Madmorgan. The Sniper is as nasty as you would expect from a Tripod scale railgun kinetic weapon using Martian tech, and the Shield Tripod (love the nickname) offers some very nice tactical options to the Matian player - Shoot or shield? Which units need the protection most? How to manage positioning and range issues? It is all interesting stuff.
vitru... I based the design on the USA Goliath as the Martians would logically try to come up with something both similiar and to counter that Mk V ! See my next OOB for a smaller battle with just the Sniper tripod - makes a more interesting games without nearly the number of units in 'A Crack of Thunder'.
