Yes, I'll have to repost a few of the OOBs I did for these in the flush of the beta pdf that never saw figures

I'm actually OK with the fact that these never got released. I honestly thought that most of the other factions were ill-conceived and they just felt kind of hokey to me. Martians were enough aliens for a game about aliens with "Martian" in the title.

Martians were enough aliens for a game about aliens with "Martian" in the title. Yep, I agree it seemed like an attempt to just create quickie stuff rather than move on to the second book (French/German/Venusian), which I'd rather of seen frankly. That said, with no figures actually available, it opens the door for us to 'reinvent' the thing whole cloth. We can use the basis of the rules pdf presented or go another direction entirely (Black Hat Martians (imperial and otherwise?), other life form (lizardmen types, or other alien types). As the Selenites were 'insectoid', the Venusians look kinda lizardlike - we'll see. I do hope to see a few other factions, if not just to bring more French and German forces into the frey over time. Comments??

I honestly wasn't too keen on the idea of Venusians or Selenites either, but maybe my mind would have changed upon seeing prototypes. The Underdwellers were just a little too out of theme for me.

yes I feel ya on that. The Old Glory 15mm(18mm) Blue Moon Aliens line has a lot of nice looking figures that could be mixed in with other factions from space & underground. Time to give the Germans more to do

I actually liked the rules as a base, assuming you could expand on them. I can see them working as a helping faction; either helping an alien force (Selenites) or even being coaxed into helping humans (Germans) repel the Martians. Their rules were fairly clever, but needed to be expanded further. Like most of the game, too much too fast, but I could see them being, say, a summer release with a few expansions later down the road. I like the idea of them popping up around the battlefield lobbing lava everywhere. It fits into a Wellsian thematic for me. But get the Martians and American/Commonwealth forces in order first, then release French against them, then Germans against Venusians, etc.

Yeah, I need to repost those workings. Way behind on it.

I think that AD had a vision of Morlocks and Selenites being factions and an H. G. Wells-verse growing into something like Warhamster (or is it Warvacuum a game that sucks or Warponzi a fraud of a game...) where there were several factions and everybody fought everybody, including each other. ICG had the molds etc. for a few underdwellers and has released them. They are quality castings and look very good. They can add to the game. The "giant grey aliens" of S2G might fit as selenites, albeit not as H.G Wells "Moon-men" which were insect-like. They can add to the flavor, but IMHO:
Humans versus Martians. ICG can keep quite busy with German, French and Russian armies for quite a while. Then there are the Italians, Turks, Chinese and Japanese.
the Australian Theater!!!
Then we might look at more a comprehensive interface between Naval and ground forces and more comprehensive Air rules and then more models. The Martians will probably develop something like boats, and possibly something like aircraft.
Campaigns from the Fiction are going to keep us players busy. The Texas Front, The Canadian Front, and the Illinois Front. There's stuff to keep the game going for at least 10 years without doing aliens.
{Aircraft will be very hard for Martians to develop. A Martian Tripod has got to weigh something like 150-200 tons. Humans did not have the capacity to lift that much weight until the 1930s.)

As for the last statement, the Hover Drone shows the way for Martian style 'aircraft' as anti-grav would allow some height, especially if as large as a tripod. Frankly, I don't favor the move in that direction - the humans need some advantages and naval & air forces give them some leeway to stop the imbalance that the Martians have in land warfare.

I misquoted myself. No martain aircraft. Hover drones and very-long-legged tripods to use in water.

A careful reading of HG Wells' book indicates that the Martians DID bring aircraft with them. So no need for much in the way of hover flight. And the denser air on Earth makes wings work better or at least smaller for the same amount of lift. Why they have not resumed use of them is a bit of a mystery.
Of all the things that I have lost, I think I miss my mind the most.
