I will be doing a posting on the new S2G organizations for my May purchase of the "G" Company and 8th Battalion Kings Prussian Legion based on the famous Kings German Legion of 1803-1816. Below is a historical listing for the various units of this highly regarded and decorated group of men from Hanover, Germany, who served with the British during the Napoleon conflicts. Although usually listed as having 14,000 troops, at various times this organization boasted 28,000 soldiers. I plan to paint my S2G Prussians in the colors of the original units (except for the Lights, see below) and the British Special Legion troops will be the usual khaki oufits with black highlights (helmet, packs, maybe some belts or boots). The "G" companies will be assigned to standard KGL units on a needs basis (the 2nd KGL in USA, the 5th KGL in Canada). Ultimately a full battalion of these folks will be available in USA, under the new 8th Kings German Legion - made up of both British Special Legion and Kings Prussian Legion companies. Enjoy!
Commanders: Brigadier General Charles Alten (BSL) and Colonel E. Otto George von Bock (KPL). Uniforms: KPL - red jacket, white straps & belt, grey pants, black helmet, dark blue backpack; BSL - khaki jacket, black straps & belt, khaki pants, black helmet, black backpack. The Light Infantry are all dark green jackets and grey pants without the black trims, similar to the various Napoleon era 'rifles'. I've decided to switch the colors for the above KPL and BSL - the KPL will be in the khaki outfit and the BPL in the red.
1st & 2nd Dragon Cavalry Regiments (wearing red jackets until 1812) redesigned Light Dragoon in 1812 (change to blue jackets)
1st, 2nd, & 3rd Hussar Regiments
1st, 2nd Light Infantry Regiments
1st thru 8th Line Infantry Regiments
Two horse and four foot artillery batteries
One Engineer Company
For AQ the Dragoon Regts will be made up of S2G 4" new recoil gun tanks (designated "4GS") and the Hussars will be made up of S2G machine gun (Mars pattern) tanks (designated "MGS")
The Artillery will become two SPA and four towed batteries of heavy artillery consisting of Special Weapon Battalion provided equipment.
Two batteries of SPAs; one of Ackland 16" autoguns and the other of Ruperts (Tesla gun).
Four batteries of towed artillery; one each of Kitchener Tribarrels, 28pdr ATGs (firing Tripod Buster Shells {+7Pow!}), Red Blossom Rocket Launchers, and finally a Tesla Gun battery.
I've not worked out what the Engineer companies will become; hopefully S2G will get around to some Combat Engineers with explosives, flamethrower, bazookas (or some form of handheld rocket launcher) and various other such devices. The current troop transport vehicle with its dozer blade attachment is most attractive for these units (carrying the engineers safely to their work sites, etc.).
As an aside, I'm still not sure if the new S2G tanks with guns should be rated 3" or 4". If you allow for TBshells, the 3" certainly packs the punch needed and the barrel looks 'right' for a 3". However, as I've already stated, the gun on that tank has a 'folding' barrel, allowing a larger gun in a smaller space due to the reduced recoil. As such, you could claim it as a 4" - I'm still debating that in my mind, leaning towards the 3" firing TBshells.
In any case, here is the historical/AQ basis of the new S2G units I'll feature under a TO&E for the "G" companies attached to the 2nd & 5th KGL and the new 8th KGL battalion. After I've got that squared away and while awaiting my May order shipment, I'll develop a nice little OOB to showcase the power of the 8th KGL and a perhaps one for the 2nd with its "G" company included. Fun for all! Well, maybe not the Martians...
