ok for the humans, I have 4 doughboy squads(12 stands), 1 Forlorn hope team, 2 machine gun teams (6 stands), 1 rough rider squadron (3 stands), 2 heavy armor infantry platoons (6 stands) with 3 carriers, 1 field gun battery, 1 heavy field gun battery, 1 Anti-tripod gun, 1 unit of mobile artillery tanks, 9 steam tanks, 1 MKII command tank 1 Marine Corps landing force, 1 command squad. When they arrive from eBay 3 more MKII tanks, a MKIV monitor, and 3 flivvers.
So for the humans I have a pretty diverse selection, but do I have enough fieldguns and infantry? And what models should the the tanks be made up off?
(your number/name) Battalion. (backstory)
1st Armor Company - HQ : MkIIc @85 + FC@30 = 115pts/1unit
1st, 2nd, 3rd Armor Platoons: Each (3) MkIII tanks @225 ec = 725pts/3units
Mechanized Infantry Platoon: (3) AIC @120 + (2) Squads Armored Infantry @130 = 250pts/1unit {ei 6 stands = 2 squads in 10men/AIC units}
1st Field Artillery Battery: (3) 75mm guns + crews @80 & (3) Flivvers @15 = 95pts/1unit (flivver are non-BP)
1st Mobile Artillery Battery: (3)MkIIMA @220 = 220pts/1unit
{I'd recommend adding the 3 HMGs @30pts on the hulls but up to you;total then is 250pts}
1st Heavy Artillery Battery: (3) 155 guns + crews @160 & (3) MkII tanks* @165 = 325pts/2units
AntiTankGun: (1) 90mm gun + crew @80 & (1) MkIV Monitor tank* @190 = 270pts/2units
{normal tactic for this combo is the MkIV tows the ATg into position, fire a round whilst it the ATg sets up, then moves out.}
1st Infantry Company - HQ: (1) Command Squad @30 = 30pts/1unit
1st, 2nd Infantry Platoons ec: (2) Infantry Squads @30 ec + (1) HMG Squad @40 = 200pts/6units
Marine Corps Company: (1)Command Squad, (6) Marine Squads, (3) Sniper Teams, (3) HMG Squads = 200pts/13units
Total Battalion is 2430pts in 31 Units = BP 16 (flivver unit non-BP) [12 order tokens]
*if you add the three HMGs to the Mobile Arty, you get 2460pts
**if you don't build the towing MkII tanks, you get a 4th Armor Platoon with MkIII tanks at 225pts giving a total of 2490pts with no change in the rest - that said, you're just 10pts shy of 2500 so throw a HMG onto a flivver and there you go. Alternately you can put the HMGs on the Mobile Battery, giving you 2520pts. This doesn't change anything but the point total.
Hope you don't think me too presumtive on presenting this. As for your question - yes you could always use more artillery. Whether its mobile or not - but it would be easier (and less expensive) to do 'fixed' positions for them, unless you're lucky enough to get some more Mobile Batteries. Donot overlook the new stuff on the market from S2G, Conqueror, and Black Hat Miniatures; all of them have fine product to add to your forces a reasonable prices including armor. See the tab for Suppliers. A further note is that the Old Glory line has some fine WW1 forces, including some artillery and other tanks, that could round out your force. The French have 75mm & 155mm (6"), the British (who look just like American forces) have 13pdr, 18pdr, and 60pdr guns/howitzers (76.2mm, 83.8mm,127mm - 3", 3.3"(used as ATg), 5") artillery. The Germans have a 77mm (3.3") and 100mm (4") gun. All the four nations shown have light and heavy mortars as well, though you'd need 3 packs as each has 2 tubes and crews. One good thing is the $50 a year "Army" membership fee that gets your 40%(!) off on all the Old Glory stuff. Heck, the Brits line even has an SP 6" gun! Enjoy.
