I needed more infantry command units for the US and this is what I came up with. The tent is heap minitanks. The base is Litko 3 inch 3mm plywood. The figure is AD. In the picture it is the worse dry brush job I have ever done, but it looks pretty good in person.

Quite nice - I might 'borrow' your idea.

Great idea - one figure = numerous 'command' units. As I recall that AD command unit had 5 of those guys standing at attention. Thats a lot of 'command units' using you wonderful idea.

Good stuff terrance, but was very disappointed your tent pictured above was 'discontinued' & not available. I found it really frustrating that they 1/had a huge number of discontinued items listed and 2/that there was no 1/160 scale military as listed in the pull down. Added to that the cost of Euros with their additional tax before shipping. Ah well, glad you got some of the tents - they really look great and inspire to do similiar with a company thats got more stock.

The Renedra tents are (renedra.co.uk) available direct with a (stiff!) 7.5GBP or 25% of order, 'whichever is higher' shipping fee. So GBP 8 costs you GBP 2 to ship - up to 25lbs via Royal Mail. Their new 'ruins' set also looks really nice. But man, those tent prices would be high for the USA folks. I'd like the Ridge tents (x4) the best (same as in the USA Command box) or perhaps the 'mixed' so could have some of the Bell tents for aid stations etc. BTW they have a 1/2 price sale going on for the Dog Tents (4)@gbp 2.25. Both the Ridge and the Bell sets have a firepit.

I bit the bullet and bought tents from Renedra but as part of a larger order to base Energy Pylons, BEF armoured cars and the pending S2G cavalry. The Renedra 'dog tents' are identical to the tent that came with the US Command Unit.

Ohhh really! Then those Ridge tents are longer (look to be twice the length, maybe size too). TY good info. There are others that use Renedra supplies, hopefully I can find a good USA retailer - Michigan Toy Soldier has only some buildings (28mm), but none of the tent series.

I actually got mine from Hobby linc ( www.hobbylinc.com/cgi-bin/s8.cgi?str_s=herpa+tent) about 3 months ago. I did a quick look and they show they have them in stock. However they are at a pretty good discount, so perhaps Herpa has stopped making them and these are what they have left in stock.

Yes, unfortunately Herpa does alot of discontinued - ty for the site, I'll see if I can get some, although the Renedra Ridge tents will work find I suppose - also having the advantage of looking like the USA command tent. Yes the site still has a number of those at a discount as well. In addition I found a really nice HO locomotive with tender, and 0-4-0, with US Army on it!! Good price at less than $35. TY great site, will be trolling it for all sorts of stuff in the future.
