Hi folks,
Have any of you folks considered basing your tanks?
I was going to do it for my mono tanks to protect the side wheels and thought I might look good for all the tanks.
Pros and cons?

I've ordered Renedra 40 x 60mm bases for the Mono-tanks because they tip easily and I don't want to damage the paint job when they're done. 40mm is just wider than the rear wheelbase and 60mm is close to their total length.
I'm only basing the unstable Mono-tanks or fragile models like the Spector ACs and Flivver trucks that have flimsy axles and/or frames (i.e. the Spectors) relative to the weight of the model. The Spectors will be going on 40 x 60mm Renedra bases narrowed to 30mm and will be supported further by small blocks of styrene between the frame and the base. There is no suitable Renedra base for the Flivvers so I'm making 33 x 80mm bases from 1.5mm thick sheet styrene (same thickness as the Renedra bases). The Flivvers will also get extra support from blocks of styrene. The metal box for the armoured version and the metal 'canvas' top are so heavy I think the thin axles will fail eventually.
The Flivver and Spector wheels will be on narrow strips of 1mm styrene, which is about the thickness of the Liquitex natural sand basing material I use after it has dried. The bases and vehicles will be painted separately, then the vehicles will be glued to the bases.
Other than to protect models I don't see a reason to put them on bases, especially the tanks.

I agree that its better to have your hard work protected from the sometimes unknown players you have. I like using Litko wooden laser cut bases, as you can get quite a few for a reasonable price - I'm not good at modeling as I've mentioned. You can get them cut into any shape you like and theres 3 different thickness. They also make good flight bases as well as lots of nice 2D and 3D markers and tokens. Also asking all new players to pick things up by the bases helps.

Thanks guys. Loyalist: great idea to use styrene to reinforce the models. I'll be making us of that.

I had the same problem with the mono tanks being prone to tip over. I bought the Renedra round bases (same size the machine guns are supplied with) and find they do a nice job of stabilizing them.

I based my armored cars, Specters & trucks Like was mentioned, it protects the wheels etc Also provides common dimension for meaurements etc. also i added foliage on the base and thus a diarama look to the vehicle

Bases are needed on some figures. Reapers are one type as well as others mentioned. The metal cap from a Pringles tube works well for some. "Found materials" can work, with some creativity. I like to use the plastic from packaging. I have also cut and flattened soda cans.
