I'd like to throw out an idea for the new living rulebook - that all tanks have a reverse gear and thus you can move, at 1/2 speed to the rear with a tank. I'm sure theres some problems with visual and all, but to go straight back or even curve back, seems a reasonable function - heck, even the tractors of the days could do this. Comments??

The rules state that an element's movement is measured from the center of its front face and it can move its full movement distance in any direction and end up in any orientation. So reverse movement is pretty much irrelevant--unless you want to introduce it. But if you do that you have to put restrictions on turning vehicles. Not sure it's worth it.

Scotts right - I'd always seen it played as forward movement only, turning and pivoting to get back into facing 'front'. The rule as read does imply that you could actually just measure from the front and go backwards I suppose. Which is why I mentioned it at all. Nicks to doing turning restrictions etc... not worth it but is it proper to measure from the front of the vehicle and simply move it backward maintaining facing??

I remember someone on the old forum had a house rule that required units to use an order token to move back to the friendly board edge. This was to prevent the move forward to get into range, shoot, and then move out of range.

yes, I can see the problem there, all those tank units using move/fire/move back like the Mars players do sometimes. But then, why not - it really doesn't seem to matter that much. Much easier to play human forces - guess I need to relook this and comment more under tactics - I never tried it at a convention battle unfortunately, so didn't get a ruling on it officially. Hmmm this makes the human tank forces a much better buy for lots of things. Ty for bringing up the order token house rule. I don't favor that one, it penalizes the humans for something the martians are doing as well. cheers!
