Had some spare 80mm and 40mm bases, plus plenty of the MK3 gun turrets in my AQMF bits bag, so decided to complete some fixed mount artillery positions. My background is that these were made by the US Corp of Engineers for building around critical fortified urban areas, rail hubs, river lines, etc. Having some nifty laser cut wooden 80mm bases, some Renedra 40mm plastic bases, a box of thumb tacks, super glue of course, my pin vise and a spare turret..... Here's the stuff:

I then MK8 eyeball measured the center of the bases, and used my pin vise to drill through them so they'd line up and rotate freely.

Glue the thumb tack to the green 40mm base, you can put a spot of glue in the hole and some around it for the edges of the tack. Make sure it is dry, then lay onto the larger 80mm base.

The post of the tack is longer than both bases, so take a pair of snips and cut it off so it is flush with the bottom of the 80mm base. I did file it so it was smooth, no jagged edges to catch anyone's fingertips! Mine especially!

Then place the turret onto the 40mm base and center it. I'll make sure it is, and then get to priming the first model! Comments and suggestions are appreciated!!!

Maybe a 4" high concrete wall with your turrets X amount apart?

An excellent way to use spare parts. Good job!

I had in mind that the rotating turrets would be behind the main trench lines, so there would be some forward troops to hold off drone or lobo attacks.
I did some more fiddling with the bases, putting some flat on the ground, some on raised platforms or hills. I think I like those ideas better!
Also though about a four or six sided bunker style base, with MG's able to shoot out of each wall to keep off advancing infantry or drones. That way too I could have the ready magazine in the building.
Plus have another ammo bunker further back to limit blast damage in case it was attacked and blown up. Maybe a small rail line or tram to take the heavy shells to the more forward turret???
SO many thoughts, I tend to distract myself!

Distractions? my psychiatrist says they are dreams of grandeur. but yes the poor old ground troops and their entrenchments have been sadly neglected

I hear you there! The wife had some recycling trays on the drying pad yesterday, I went backwards into my Warhammer days and immediately though of bunkers. Talking the 40K side of WHFB. Got the left one could be a MG bunker, put two or more platoons of HMG's in there for Drone or Lobo defense works. The bigger one could be set behind those plus barbed wire and pits or water, put a large naval 7" or 12" gun in the center, I was thinking back to West Wall German big gun emplacements at the time of D-Day. Maybe mount a couple of rotating turrets on top? But, that's ANOTHER project now.....

So went ahead and mounted the MK3 turrets to the top of the bases, they spin nicely!!! I'm thinking of how guns and bunkers were camouflaged in both WW1 and WW2. So I think I'll let all four dry, and then base coat them an olive green. Camouflage is halfway done that way!

You could add a MG to the turrets. Just stick them out next to the cannon where the hatch or vision slit is. If you don't have MG's any small stick will do. Cheap way to increase firepower! Have Fun.
