Greetings, I was on a different forum, and saw an interesting Victorian Sci-Fi game where they used The Men Who Would Be Kings as the base ruleset and applied the stat lines to Martians and fighting on Mars. I could see using The Men Who Would Be Kings statlines with my 15/18mm models. leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=125664.msg1614295#msg1614295Has anyone thought of playing AQMF themed game with alternate rulesets? If so, which ones?

I picked up a copy of the Action! Classics book sometime ago, and that is definitely worth a read. With 5E rules popping up all over the place, I'm sure it wouldn't take too much to adventure in the worlds of our esteemed colleague, Mr Scott Washburn. Personally I have always had a bit of a yearning to role play sometime after the initial invasion, where the Martians rule the Earth, and the Artilleryman wasn't a dreamer... Brave New World.

I have been working a bit on a skirmish game in that type of setting that is more "survival horror".

Has anyone thought about using a game like Last Days, to build a "survival Horror" theme to a War of the Worlds style game?
The zombies would be replaced by various Lobotons.

I actually like that idea. I’ve been trying not to look too much at different systems for my AQMF stuff as I’m waiting on V2, I had thought of both Gruntz and Battletech Alpha Strike. I guess I want an official AQMF rules with the right feel... don’t ask me what that feel is though! 😂

Alpha Strike? Interestings. The Tripods could be Mecha, while the humans would just be tanks and troopers..... potential as well.

There is a trend in the war gaming hobby towards warband sized gaming.
Not sure how 10-20 humans can fight even a scout tripod. Still with luck and a ambush set up it could be played.
Good idea to use lobotons as zombies. Scorpions would also make a good opponent.

I have done some work on a Survival Horror game similar to Last Days only after a Orson Wells War of the Worlds that actually happened.
Part of the point of the game is that a small band of survivors really CAN'T fight a Tripod. Instead, they have to quake in terror or flee. Attracting the Martians attention in the game is usually pretty bad news.

I just don’t have the time to paint heaps of figures & don’t have the spare cash to be buying hundreds more figures. I think the idea of an almost indestructible Martian Walker needs to be removed if you are going to play it as a skirmish level. Having just read the books by Scott (and really enjoying them), I do like the toughness of the tripods for a game the size of AQMF, but to move it to skirmish (10 - 20 infantry + a couple of specialists or vehicles) I thin that they need to be tough but defeatable. I’d always thought 1 tripod with units of drones/lobotons OR up to 3 tripods.

I also built a generic game called Rampant Stars that I used my Tripods in versus Space marines. It is a Skirmish game.... bloodandspectacles.blogspot.com/2017/02/rampant-stars-battle-report-battle-at_5.htmlHowever, I think you mean a AQMF Skirmish game. In that case, I think a Slaver as a Tripod HQ vs various Drones and Lobos makes the most sense as the Martians vs. a couple platoons of Humans with a tank or two in support.

That’s actually pretty cool, I hadn’t thought to go to a different scale of humans.
Might be the way to go! 👍
