I have been finishing up some projects and realize that I have 12 tripods:
3 Scouts 3 Assault Tripods 2 Reapers 1 Harvester (to complete) 1 Veteran Tripod (75%) 1 Royal Scientist (50%) 1 Grenadier (still in the box)
I also have a few drones.
I need matching forces among the humans, but I am significantly behind.
What I have:
6 Mk III tanks 3 mobile Howitzers (80%) 1 Mk IV (90%)
2 units of infantry 1 unit Machine guns 1 unit (4 stands) of Rough Riders, painted.
3 Wheelie tanks in American colors.
The same infantry unpainted
A box of civilians, unpainted.
Twelve tripods is a significant military force, the equivalent of a strong regiment, a brigade, or a weak division. My basic box provides a weak battalion. Adding armor makes a supported battalion.
At this point, my tendency is to buy as much "bang for the buck" as I can, which would mean more Mk. IIIs. I would like to get two full companies of Mk. IIIs, so I would need 4 boxes. That will take me a while to acquire.
I would also like to get two more Mk IVs. This will complete a tank battalion, less the logistical tail.
Now comes the fun part: to build a regiment, a balanced force, without overspending. Not just the best point value for the dollar.
For their coolness factor, I would like to get a Goliath. I think in terms of TO&E, a Goliath would be a company to itself, but I don't expect them out for at least 6 months.
For the same coolness factor, Ashley's Golden Eagles, out now.
In terms of Combat effectiveness, what do the puny humans have to stand up to the Martians? How do others build US forces to battle the Martians?

If I was you I'd add a lot more artillery to inflict damage as the Martians are closing.
My Canadian Force follows the US organization in the rule book with 3 elements per infantry unit and uses mostly US equipment. My force is heavy on artillery with capability to field 6 Heavy Howitzers, 6 Medium Howitzers, 3 Mobile Howitzers, 3 Heavy trench mortars, 2 Anti-tripod guns and 3 1-pdr coil guns.
Each pair of the 10 infantry units has an attached HMG unit. There are 6 cavalry units and 3 Rough Rider units.
Given the size of the army it's relatively light on tanks with 1 company of 10 S2G tanks (1 Mk IIc, 6 MK II and 3 Mk IImg equivalents), 1 of 10 steam tanks (1 Mk IIc, 6 Tommy Tanks and 3 Mk III), 1 Clamp Tank, 2 Mine Layers, 6 MK IIt tow tanks, 6 S2G transport/tow tanks, plus 6 fuel and ammo trailers. There are enough kits left to build 5 more units of Mk II/III tanks.
I have 3 Mk IV monitors to which the ammo and fuel tender supply tanks will be attached.
