Hi All! I just wanted to post my first picture of my Mark IV in US colours. Thanks to some kind advice from people here and elsewhere, I have the confidence to start painting my forces in earnest. I've done some simple highlights and shading over an Olive Drab base. I have yet to do the crew commander, as I still have not figured out the uniform colours. Again, Thank you all for the advice and patience with me asking dumb colour-related questions. Craig

Hi All,
I've just put together my other Mark IV tank and have started doing one of my Mark IV Command Tanks.
Stupid question - is there a trick to doing the handrails? I don't seem to have enough to go around.
Thanks,
Craig

If you spray the model with Dullcote or Testor's matte clear you'll take the shine off the base coat. Good idea to add 'coal' to the hopper. The original 'coal' lacks detail so I've done the same thing. I've seen one monitor with a cover added to the hopper.

Looking good. I have just started the hand rails, I am going to drill holes to fit them in. You should have one long hand rail and two small ones. I was missing the two machine gun turrets in my box so maybe you have something missing

Quendil,
Mine already had holes (I have two sets, and both contain identical parts), but I seem to be short of hand railings to go around the edge of the platform.
Craig
I just looked closer and discovered that I am missing the couplings and arms that connect to the tracks from one set! Blast!!!!

Nice! One thing upon seeing the model assembled is trying to figure the worth of the two mg turrets at the bottom. they are so inset between the tracks and the drivers box that they're 'fixed' forward rather than turreted in effect. Fixed forward as in field of fire limited to the inside of the width of the tracks!

Looking good. Did you glue the roof on the command tower?

Looking good. Did you glue the roof on the command tower? Not yet. I still have to paint the figures. Craig

Mad, the two guns between the tracks are 4" guns and not hmgs. Gives it lots of firepower.

I've finished applying decals to the first of 2 Mk IV Monitors in Canadian service. Later tonight it'll get a protective coat of Krylon clear acrylic, then Testor's matte spray to take the shine off. Photos of 'M2' to follow.
Monitor 'M1' will be finished in a couple of days. It has a 'Patton' figure in the turret cupola. The model was bought on the Facebook Martian Front buy and sell page almost a year ago. It was supposed to be a KS Patton tank but turned out to have a Monitor turret, Patton and a 5" gun instead of a 7". My conversion of another Monitor to a BEF tank with Faraday Electric Gun freed up a 7" gun to complete this model.
