When we play All Quiet the humans always make the Martian slavers priority targets. Makes sense, right? Kill the slavers and all the drones and lobos stop working.
How long until the Martians realize this?
Why did they build their slavers to be so distinctive from the assault and scout tripods in the first place? Perhaps they were guided by engineering logic rather than tactical logic. Once the humans realized what they were (it might take a while, but eventually they would) they would do just as we gamers do: kill the slavers.
But there's no reason the Martians couldn't build them to look like assault tripods. Aside from a few small antennae, the heads look pretty much like an assault tripod. Just stick them on an assault tripod body and they should still work fine and be a lot harder for the humans to spot in the smoke and confusion of battle.
It's only a matter of time.

Allowing some assault tripods to act as Slavers was my plan to overcome the absence of the models before Ironclad Games resumed production.
Adding some antennae would be a relatively simple "conversion." However, just declaring an Assault tripod to be controller, maybe with a blip marker on the base, would work just as well.
Assaults are taller than the low profile Slavers, so they are harder to hide during the approach. But the height gives them some line of sight advantages. Ya give a little; ya get a little.

I like your idea, I am building my slavers from scouts, but will probably use shorter legs. The distance of 12 inches to the controller will still probably give them away.

Possibly the first reaction to humans targeting the slavers for special attention was the reaper, a slaver with combat capabilities.
Using other figures as proxies, say a scout, keeping the speed and armor of the actual figure but keeping the capabilities and machine hit record of the slaver, would probably work very well.
Of course, I still like the idea of using the slaver as a chassis for a "heavy grenadier," so perhaps IC might see this as a opportunity to create a new figure with minimal development cost while keeping sales of the slaver chassis up.

On the one hand, I really like the idea of IG coming up with a second generation Slaver. Heavy armored upgrade with not much more in weapons, this beast would have the same 12" range, but maybe an armor 12 or 13! The limitations on the range is a game construct - with a table width of only 48", halved for 'Mars' side, it only makes sense to limit the range to a quarter of the table width. Even using the popular 'narrow edge' of a 4 x 6 foot table, the limited range makes some sense - although with the better table length you could increase its range to 18" for an experiment with this new IG model; again maintaining the 1/4 of the table width ratio. A second thought would be just to give the second generation Slaver (Heavy Slaver, Veteran Slaver?) an 18" range period. I think I like 'Veteran Slaver', as it should look a bit like a Veteran Assault machine, with all that additional armor. The Reaper certainly more than makes up for the controller of choice in the current range of models. And although not a real combat machine, the Scientist also gives us another controller. In the case of the Royal Scientist, we have a marked increase in combat ability. Finally, there is the top of the food chain - the Overseer. Not only does it act as a controller, it brings its on squads of drones to the party. So, before IG considers the 'Veteran Slaver', they need to product the Overseer. For my monies, I'd rather have one of those monster hit the table at the top of the drone chains. Cheers!
