Ok folks, I need some input here....
Assume you have 10 shiny new Assault Tripods to build, what would you suggest they be built as (give me a breakdown of pure assault/green gas/blackdust))?
Has anyone tried to magnetize the arms so they can hot swap them? If so, do you have any pictures instructions on how you did it?
Thanks in advance!

I use bluetack on the arms to hold them in place for when I want to swap.

I use bluetack on the arms to hold them in place for when I want to swap. Ok, I take back the idea to magnetize them. I've read several blogs that said that they tried but the items are just too heavy for magnets to hold them on the model. I don't want any of my painting scratched up!

I do one black dust launcher for every two assault tripods. I don't use the green mists ones.

My assault tripod inventory is: 6 with heat ray 1 with heat ray and black dust 1 with heat ray and green gas 2 with black dust (no heat ray) 2 with green gas (no heat ray)

I am not certain I have a good reason. I wanted a variety of weapon loads. And including the heat ray with a gas or dust weapon adds 50 points to the cost of the tripod. And not giving them heat rays made them feel like specialized units. I also like the tactical problems that arise with having some tripods with only short range weapons. If I were starting over I would probably do 2 each of the dust or gas with heat ray and only 1 each without the heat ray.

I've built 2 tripods with Black Dust, 2 with Green gas and am building 8 regular Assault tripods. The plan is to have 1 tripod with a special weapon in each trio of Assault tripods. The BD and GG weapons are short range so the 3 tripods per group will use their heat rays while closing and soften up the targets for the BD and GG.

I haven't thought much (like not at all ) about having some sort of standard Martian pod.

That approach does maintain the Martian tendency to use things in 3's.

I don't glue the arms in for my Assault Tripods or scout tripods. I am able to snap the head off and re-arrange the arms as I need to.
Or, you can check out greenstuffworld.com. they have "rotation magnets" that might work.
Magnets to hold arms in place are difficult to get right.

My experience matches farkongnome's and hardlec's. The arms and tentacles, particularly the metal ones, tend to twist on the magnet and/or fall off. Magnets big enough to hold these items tightly are large and unsightly.
I have forsworn fooling with magnets. Hardlec's approach seems to be the most effective and simplest.

Got pictures of how you did your tripods so we can copy this method?

I currently have 2 with Black Dust and 1 with Green Gas. They came from the first box of AQMF I bought and were the first assembled back in the day. At the start, there were limited choices for Martians and those and a couple of Scouts got you to over 1k points. Basically, they are so for points and fortification/trench assaults. And additional 9 Assaults without the above. The blue tack method is the way to go, I plan on using this for any further adds of those weapons. That extra 50 points is a lot considering you could get a Grenadier,Slaver,or a Scientist with a squad of Lobos, or a squad of any kinda of drones for just two of those weapon system costs.
