Why would an eBay seller even think about telling 1**0 that new production will begin soon? As far as the seller is concerned "Let the good times roll!!" I would just be certain that the payment was in my hands before shipping the goods...
"Spectator sport" is the best description that I have heard about this. I have bought a few items, but these prices are just stratospheric.

There is a guy selling a veteran tripod, a slaver,a harvester, a box of assault tripods, and sniper drones. Still over 5 days left. Only a matter of time before that jerk jumps in. I want the sniper drones and harvester, but I know that's not realistic. Spectator sport is right.

I can only view them when I go to e-bay.com not from the UK site. How does that work?

End of insanity?
I'll bet the guy forking over $1000's US now has a real case of the vapors. Nothing like having production resume to tank the speculator's prices.

I had heard rumours that there were people doing this sort of thing with mundane or obscure (low value) "collectables" to sell drugs with the price jacked up so high, nobody, not in the know, would even consider bidding.
Real collectors would see the inflated prices and shrug thinking "there's another idiot with too much money". A code phrase in the buyer's comments and the deal gets done.
Just a rumour, not seen any proof, especially in this case.

Now, that is a cute way to launder money. I just come up kinda short in the criminal mastermind department.

Well, it would explain a few things. I tend to think of politicians 'crimes' more that 'street' - is an interesting theory.
