I'd planned to scratch-build a British M-Class WWI monitor, had copied plans and enlarged them to 1/92 scale to match the AQotMF infantry. Yesterday I discovered both variants of M-Class monitors are produced by Dean's Marine (UK) in 1/100 scale for 150 pounds. 1/100 scale is nominally 15mm so the models are a little undersized for 18mm but should look fine on the table.
The hulls are full depth and made of fiberglass so will have to be cut at the waterline. The molded plating detail should make that fairly easy. I'm contacting Deans to see if they'll sell the models without running hardware, which should reduce the price. A concern on this side of the Atlantic in the shipping cost. When considering the many hours that would be required to scratch-build one of these ships the cost of a kit and shipping is probably worth it.
The two variants are the M15 which has a single 7.5" gun forward and the M33 which has a smaller superstructure and two 6" guns, in forward and aft shielded gun mounts. If I get one of these it will be the M33; I'd replace the 6" guns with Coil guns or maybe one Coil gun and a 'Faraday' electric gun.
