Lots of good ideas here. Wonder if Walters or other model train vendors have just crane claws like for construction equipment. Made from light weight plastic, you'd only need one if you can mold your own. I always thought that the Reaper Claws looked good, but were too 'thin' for the task of ripping up buildings and such. Rebel Miniature shorter metal claws looked fine. So perhaps a compromise would be to have the new kits by IG have shorter, thicker claws done in plastic rather than metal. Or in metal if the plastic is too much. This goes along with the idea of prefab tripod legs on a base - more standard for putting together at the price of modeling with the current setup.

You can always cut claws from plasticard sheet. Cut the profile you want and then add bits and pieces for dimensional "details".
If you want, one of these can be used to make a master mold for resin copies.

Heating the metal, as with a hair dryer or heat gun on low, will soften it and assist in re-posing the arm. Pseudo-pewter "work hardens" very quickly, and heating the metal will re-temper it, making it softer and less likely to snap. You have to be careful doing this. In addition to avoiding getting burned, the purpose of a heat gun is to soften paint for removal. Removing the paint from a fig is an undesired consequence.
