St. Louis was destroyed. It was a clear loss for the Martians, but a Pyrrhic victory for humanity.
The refugees are housed in Thomas Edison's new concrete city, in central Illinois. The plan is to go back, and rebuild one of the few bridges across the Mississippi.
120 miles south of St. Louis is the river port of Cape Girardeau.
There is no bridge across the river at the Cape. There are ferries. The city was a place where riverboats were built and maintained. Heavily fortified during the Civil war, the city retains "the bones" of the old defensive works. Concrete and big guns come up river. The city is fortified again.
Batteries of 12 inch guns converge on East St. Louis. Armed River boats come from up and down the Mississippi. Airships are marshalled. Airplanes are marshalled.
From the south come the men and machines of the United States. St. Louis will be retaken. St. Louis will be restored. At the meeting of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, St. Louis will become the Gibraltar of the rivers.
Cape Girardeau will be the starting point.
Comments, please.

I would expect Marvin and his friends to pay you a visit there.

I am hoping so. The Cape is going to be a mousetrap. (Hey Martin, come over here. I'll hold out my fist, you can bash it with your face.) Only to be funny and hoping not to take advantage of Billf's excellent point: Martin's got friends?

Ah once again the hardlec dangles historical accurate info into our AQ universe for action. I can see a great scenario taking shape and look forward to further details. Be warned if not forthcoming, I Will have to work up this for an OOB! Very tantilizing.

Marvin has been fighting in the area between Indianapolis,Cincinnati, and Louisville. His last battle was a big defeat at Cincinnati, and he is looking for revenge. This could be the place for it.

Hardlec,
I have both trenches and Scott's fortress walls and gun tower sets. Is there a part of the fortification where it is a mix of trenches and walls? I am working up a scenario for this. When my Martian players saw your post, they said Cape Girardeau has got to go away.

Gads now I'm doublely interested with the Lousiville connect. KY militia and all. My enthusiatic intrest in OOBs was waning, just the spark - fire it up hardlec and billf - you'll see some really powerful USA forces conceived for this one!

I hadn't heard the Martians had crossed the Mississippi.

They took both Memphis and St. Louis. They have been probing the area between the Mississippi and the current defense line that runs from Chicago to Indianapolis to Cincinnati to Louisville and then southwards. No massive attacks yet, just raids and probes with sometimes very few tripods to maybe 20-30 tripods for a really heavy probe.

Well, I think I am going to write to Martin held at the Mississippi. Unless there are objections.

Marvin is currently at his holdfast in central Illinois waiting for instructions from the conclave on what will be done about Cape Girardeau. Tripods are massing for the seemingly inevitable attack. As has been said before " If you build it, They will come "

I usually don't reply to my own posts, BUT:
In the main rulebook, page 8 and 9 have a map of the US and a list of battles.
Memphis was a Martian victory, but the Martians are contained in Tennessee St. Louis was a US Victory Chicago was a US/BEF Victory and
The Martians have been pushed back to the Mississippi with the introduction of the Landships.
If I am incorrect, or if the consensus is to have the US start further east, I will follow the canon; My plot involves Naval units coming up the Mississippi. THis will not be possible if the Mississippi is in Martian hands.
Also: A line south from Chicago as suggested gives the Martians most of Illinois, and big chunks of Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama.
This means most of the US Agricultural Production, Coal and Iron Ore are in Martian hands. This will close down the Factories in the East. No Food, no Workers. No ore or coal, no steel and no tanks. In short, the US ceases to offer organized opposition and becomes guerilla resistance. The Martians drive through the south, like Gen. Sherman did, then North up the Eastern seaboard.
Game, set and match for Mars. So I write about the extermination of the human nuisance.

Read page 21 in the rulebook top right corner. That talks about the fall of St. Louis and the new defense line. Since AD is gone, we can do it however it suits us.

I see where St. Louis fell, but I do not see the new defensive line: I read that Pershing and the Martians have a "static" line along the mississippi. The line suggested, Chicago to Louisville to memphis to Shreveport looks like this: Please pardon my coarse line. Yes, I left off the West coast. I can see possibly needing to destroy a redoubt in Illinois, it would be the first redoubt destroyed, but pushed back to Ohio? No.

I realize the map in the AD book is pretty grim, but that is based on a 1914 events. On page 21, it specifically states "Following the fall of St.Louis, the allied army retreats onto the Illinois-Indiana Defences - a complex of heavily-fortified cities and towns, including Chicago and Indianapolis, linking to the Wabash and Tennessee Lines." Of coarse there could be alot of changes during 1915 into 1916. I agree, especially as those areas from the reasons you mention (breadbasket, coal, etc) means the humans would put up the greatest defense of the area. I prefer the line being held similiar to the 1914 one with some small victories for the Martians south of Memphis and south of Milwaukee, countered by attacks by USA/BEF forces supported by naval forces in Lake MI and up the lower portion of the MS river. This lends to your storyline with the whole St.Louis trap you're working on. I support the notion of the ambush using the lure of St.Louis area completely. Cape Girardeau is on! As an aside, I really like the smaller maps for the individual areas. Easier to coordinate OOBs and come up with new battles.
