To all AQotMF'ers:
Well if the rumors are true, we are heading for another AQotMFpocalypse. The way I see it, there are two things the new owners (hopefully) need to do. These are based on the current market of table top gaming as I see it. First, the rules need a revision, period. You can't take over this IP and expect it to grow. The IG guys pooed away from revising the rules for whatever reason, if this is allowed to continue the rest doesn't matter. Just look at the current market! Keeping your game in front of the public takes work (and cash). The rules have to be living and kept up to date. IF whomever takes over, a revision is tried and then left to get stale, it's still not going to work. You've got to revise, redo, yearly, the rules to keep them fresh and in the public's eye. I would also suggest a spiral bound rule book and a PDF option, too . Also, getting demos out in front of the public. Demo's REGULARLY at all the major conventions, at the least, whether thru demo's by fan boyz or some kind of AQ militia, with prizes! An organized attempt, with company guidance, to make sure the market gets consistently presented with the game. Perhaps a copy of Scott Washburn's first book to the winner on each side to feed the fluff.
Secondly, the game needs new releases on a regular basis. The human forces need to expand on the forces of Earth at the minimum. There is so much potential there, the other nations could contribute to a healthy expansion of the game. Having said that, some serious thought and research has to be performed about how each nation will contribute something new to the game. Not just another kind of tank or artillery but changes of TACTICS that reflects each nation's contribution to the game as a whole. At this period, what separates the Russians from the Prussians? Are the French more impulsive and on the offensive constantly? What differences in command can be simulated? What about the Martians? Are there things that we've missed? Constructors, A sectional Redoubt terrain piece, something larger than hover drones? This is going to take planning and cash, hands down...
Terrain is a possible option to add additional sales. Ships, Trains, buildings, roads, in packaging that gives the customer value. What about a point based, reduced retail, starter set that is formulated for tourney play? More accessories, fire, smoke , placeable heat ray scenic items that hook to the models. Magnets in the kits for flexible weapons, especially the Martian tripods. Just some suggestions but I think we've got to think outside the box because otherwise it's just going to repeat the same outcome again. Probably in an even shorter time than before. Comments welcome!
Respectfully,
Gunny
P.S. Also something else, a consistent forum. I am hesitant on this point because I'm not a face booker. I don't know how many are here vs. FB so this kind of forum may go by the wayside. Whatever way the new owner(s) go, they have to stay engaged with the player base.
