A: Never underestimate an Annie Oakley,
Or a Becca
Or a Sarah.
B: If the Martians are so smart, why do they keep falling into the same traps over and over? The leaders see the traps, say how weak the prey creatures are for using the traps, and then get the pongees blasted out of them. Over and Over.
C: Remember Little Rock!
D: 2

Hardlec,
In answer to B, one thing that you need to remember is that the Martians aren't natural warriors and are inexperienced with wars of this size and complexity or against foes of this type. In this regard, the humans are far more experienced than they are. Raw intelligence isn't a complete substitute for battle experience.

Very much like some of the ah-cee-fers I served under in the cold war. Book smart and combat savvy are very different.
One break for humanity is one of the more combat savvy Martian leaders is no longer leading Martians.
