From all of the photos I've seen it looks like the cage is not a particulary great fit to the tripod head. Looks like it could have used some additional sculpting to have a less obvious gap at contact.

This cast considering the cost is very bad but they are sending me a replacement so thats good customer service. The new arms are great though.

I have received the replacement head part today so that was good service. The part is actually the same as the one I had except it has been sanded down a bit. Make me wonder whether it is a poor sculpt or poor moulding. It does put me off buying other resin items especially as it cost nearly as much as 3 tripods. Anyway some pictures so you can make up your own minds about this Original on the left

Good grief, Q! That looks like a real FUBAR of a product. Clearly the prototype sculpt did not translate well into the production part.
It appears that you have only two viable approaches: (1)"hog out" the resin part to fit or (2)cut away the back of the tripod carapace. Either might let the edges come closer to matching. Working the carapace will not require as much time with a motor tool and cutting burr as trying to get rid of the interfering resin surfaces inside. Plus you won't have that resin dust all over the place, just some styrene dust and chips.
I am willing to work with resin parts to get a unique product when they look like they will fit. This piece looks BAD from a fit viewpoint and from a finish viewpoint of the sculpt. All those pits, bubbles and chips are not a good sign.
Of course, you have two other options if you don't really want the Gatherer: (1) send it back and ask for a refund or (2) take it to a deserted spot in the woods or on the shoreline and see how far you can throw it.
All things considered, you might be better off to scratchbuild an attachment to the carapace.

I shall probably end up bodging it together with sanding milliput and greenstuff. The reason for buying the kit is so I didn't have to scratchbuild one as I have lots of other stuff for various games I am working on.
I have to say if this is what there new products are going to be like I do fear for the future of the game

That is horrible, and should never have been released.

now I am scared as to what the Constructor tripod is going to look like, for I had high hopes for that one.

thanks for the post and pics. now I know I shall pass on this tripod. Yes £25.99 for a plastic tripod, 3 resin tentacles and the horrid basket thing is very bad value. I wouldn't buy it again and shall definitely wait until i see lots more unbuilt pictures before buying any new releases.

I have to say that what I have seen is quite off-putting. I never cared for resin models to begin with, and the pics of the castings do not fill me with confidence.
Dremel makes a newer model of their mini-grinder that uses a vacuum to spin a turbine that powers the tool. While noisy (as noisy as a vacuum) it does a bit of sucking up dust.
