Just been pondering Kickstarters again recently. I backed one the other month for some Goblin archers, small pledge that have come today (£12), which will fit in with my WHFB army at some point. I have backed quite a few Kickstarters overs with AQMF being the 2nd I ever backed. I made the decision towards the end of last year not to bother backing any for large amounts again as I have found I never use the stuff. Most of the kickstarters I backed I have ended up selling on the stuff with a loss or they get put in a box to be forgotten, I just wondered how many other people felt the same?
Even though AQMF failed to complete all the goods promised (I don't want to get in a discussion about that) I actually feel that it is the only one that I have backed that I have got my moneys worth from, its the only one I actually play, paint and still buy stuff for (Thanks to Ironclad Games).
I wonder as gamers and collector we get caught up in the kickstarter hype and offers buying stuff we never use?

Aside from All Quiet, I've only backed a few kickstarters, and on a small basis. I was quite pleased with All Quiet (Obviously!) and still play and buy figures. I just got my Dropfleet Commander kickstart stuff and the quality is amazing. We'll see if the game is any good.
But I've been able to resist most kickstarters so far.

I think I got caught up in the hype in the early days but no longer.

I am a kickstarter junkie. I think the first step is admitting that you have a problem.
I've been burned (Robotech, will you ever deliver?), surprised, overwhelmed, underwhelmed, etc.
Kickstarter as a platform is wonderful and really allows tons of great projects to happen that otherwise might not.
I've been fortunate enough to use them for my boardgame (and will so again this year for my next one).
Tons of artists and designers being able get things done is cool.
I'm a sucker for all of CMON's projects, which accumulate and wait to be painted. Sigh. I need help...

I've recently backed 2 kickstarters that are still active -
- champions of Midgard is a FANTASTIC worker placement, combat vs environment game. The original game was kickstarted and they published with no issues.
I've also backed - this looks like another cool worker placement game, that I hope the family will play.

Ive supported 4 so far: - Infamy - The big smoke. This one is still ongoing.
- Arcworlde - came a bit late, but looks ok, haven't played it yet...
- Moonstone - Only finished late last year and wave 1 hasn't been sent, but its on track I believe
- Twisted - A local Aussie game, looks very nice & still under production.
I've watched heaps and I missed AQMF, although I have bought up some peoples Kickstarter bundles over here, so I have heaps of British!

I backed the First and Second Arcworlde kickstarters but didn't back the last one Troubles in the North. The miniatures are great but can't get into the game and most of the miniatures are still unpainted.

So looking through the list I have definitely wasted a lot on money on stuff I just haven't used or sold at a loss. Think I need to be banned from kickstarter

In my shame, I've backed 42 different projects. Anybody wanna start a Kickstarters Anonymous with me? I mean, after March, I need to back the Rising Sun...just one last hit....oh that's good.

Agree, but then you need to look at the monies you've spent that could of been on AQMF or relative to AQMF (terrain supplies, buildings, etc.) I first heard of "kickstarters" when I got into AQMF - but, that ship had sailed and so many people were upset with AD by then, that it soured me on them. If anything, I'm most tempted by four offers outstanding : Miniature Building Authority - company does quality work and is consistent with filling kickstarters; Fat Dragon Games - I love their new 3D dungeon stuff, but, I don't have nor foresee getting even a cheap 3D printer anytime soon; Reaper Miniatures - again a quality work with good track record on releases; Acheson Creations - again nice product with proven track record. I'm sure I've missed a couple of others that I was considering, but the real problem is funds. Limited funds. I have items I want from companies that product excellent produce that I've not gotten yet. All are on this forum and you folks know the names - IG, S2G, Conqueror, Black Hat, Acheson Creations, Paper Terrain, Brigade Miniatures, GHQ, Old Glory, Eureka, Battlrlore, - the lists goes on! So, I'm not doing Kickstarters, even for some of the above mentioned companies as well as many board game efforts. I just can't and still get the things from the above companies that I've planned for the next few years. We won't even mention when I'll get this all painted up! So, I feel for you out there. Peace.

Well, the good news is that when established entities launch a Kickstarter there is high probability that the product will be available in general retail, just a bit later. With unknowns, it is a bit of a crapshoot. Maybe-maybe not.

I've had pretty decent luck with multiple kickstarters for a variety of different things. Regarding gaming, I did pick up PSC's Great War and the Tank expansion that came later. Worthington Games Hold the Line was a nice find. Currently waiting on Battle For Britain.
