Some of the items I was looking forward to getting was the human fortification options such as the command and gun towers. Also I was intrigued by he Edison Wires. I guess these are high voltage (or high amp?) direct current lines meant to electrocute a tripod on contact. In the rule book they appear much taller than usual telephone/ telegraph poles.
1) Any ideas on proxy models?
2) Any ideas on rules?
A Tripod attempting to cross during movement phase will suffer a automatic hit with +4 attack. If attack is successful then apply damage per tripod damage table. The wires remain intact. Back up the tripod ( if it survives) an inch away along its approach path.
If the tripod suffers no damage then the wires are snapped and that section is removed.
The wire can be destroyed by direct fire by targeting or assaulting a pole (defense 2 and armor 8)

Maybe larger scale telephone poles like these Telephone Poles and some sort of electrical wire strung between them.

I found a wonderful item in the Rebel Miniatures line - its a power pole look with generator box at base. Go to rebelminis.com under 28mm Sci-Fi button to Energy Field/Fence stock # efence @ $19.95. Set of 4 poles, with small guage copper wire (craft section Walmart et al.) looks great. BTW this site also has two different Martian Walkers, under the 15mm Sci-Fi tab. A mini at $14.95 and a larger at $29.95 - both of which I use for other machine designs in the game. Originally I did those up as Anti-Aircraft Tripods, but will be expanding their use for other things. Additionally I use the 15mm Modern Tab SAS teams and weapons for British Assault Infantry squads and heavy weapons. Their 15mm Pulp line is also very good with lots of figures to period, even some British colonials with gasmasks on! Do check out the site.

I took your advice on the old forum and checked out the same models at Rebel Miniatures. I may get the larger walker to use as a Scientist, Reaper or Slaver if I can't buy an AD one (which seems unlikely to happen). I'd be inclined to file off the rivets.

I see the pole set but they are not what I'm looking for. Though nice looking they are a bit futuristic looking.

Peter Pig sells 15mm telephone poles that look like they could be steel, and might work for Edison fences. 10 for 8 pounds.

BTW the complete Peter Pig line is carried by BrookHurstHobbies.com out of California - USA vendor with US prices

The wire can be destroyed by direct fire by targeting or assaulting a pole (defense 2 and armor 8) For damage I was thinking a new damage table may be needed. My thought is the main effect is the current overloads circuits in the tripod causing shorts, tripping breakers and damaging electrical equipment. So the most common damage effect would be the tripod is shut down for a turn or more while the systems reboot or are repaired. Counts as immobilized for shooting at by humans. Could also consider the possibility of damage to specific systems such as weapons, either permanent or temporary. I think explosion of the tripod is unlikely.

Nice thinking. There are times when I'd like to just do away with all the 'special' damage tables, giving the various pieces covered by them really nice be hit point totals - simply keep putting damage on till it either dies or explodes (a simple low/high d10 roll for that). Much cleaner. For the larger guns/rays/whatever the original (non-errated) 2d10 damage is done using this system. Thoughts? and the table you suggest for the damage ?

I'll mock up a table for discussion and post it here. Probably tomorrow.

Edison Wire Fluff
Edison Wire is a static defense sometimes placed around fortifications. It looks like nothing more than tall power poles but can be very damaging to Martian tripods. The wires carry a strong current. If a tripod contacts the wire, the current passes through the machine and may damage or destroy electrical equipment in the tripod.
Each pole of an Edison Wire emplacement is powered with underground cables. In this way each section of the emplacement is independently powered. If one section is damaged or destroyed, the remaining sections remain powered and dangerous to the Martians.
Rules If a tripod contacts a section of Edison wire, immediately roll a d10 on the Edison Wire Damage table and determine the result.
Edison Wire Damage Die roll | Effect | Description 1-3 | Break through | The tripod is undamaged and may continue its move if it has movement left. It may fight normally in the next combat phase. The Edison wire in this section is destroyed. 4, 5 | Breakers tripped | The tripod halts at the wire. It may not move or fight for the remainder of this turn. It may move and fight normally on the next turn. The Edison wire in this section is destroyed. 6, 7 | Minor damage | The tripod halts at the wire. It may not move or fight for the remainder of this turn. It may move and fight normally on the next turn. The Edison wire in this section is undamaged. 8,9 | Significant damage | The tripod halts at the wire. It may not move or fight for the remainder of this turn or for the next turn. The Edison wire in this section is undamaged. 10 | Major damage | The tripod halts at the wire. It may not move or fight for the remainder of the game. The tripod counts as destroyed for army break point. The Edison wire in this section is undamaged.
Tripods that are forced to halt due to effects on the Edison Wire Damage table count as immobilized if attacked by humans.

I like your Edison wire rules. Any plans to game test them in he near future?

Very nice. I'll probably adopt them for my Rebel Miniature poles, although they have selfcontained power sources at the base of each one, so still independently powered. Nice.
