Turn 3Visibility: 20 - ( Red 8 - Green 7) =19 Initiative modifier - 4 drone units + one tripod - 2 towers = +3 Human die roll 7 +3 initiative = 10 , Martian die roll 9 US Army - Turn 3.No reinforcements. Two orders tokens used to regenerate armored infantry and MG unit and are placed in reinforcement pool. No arty available due to loss of observers and search lights. Hq units unable to observe targets. In the south sector. Infantry assaults fail Two more hits with movement critical hit is inflicted on the reaper abutting the barricade. In the North fire is massed on the slaver but only achieving a single hit.

Wow nice OOB for the upcoming battle - ty! I take it the 'Royal Black Dust' drones are simply Viral Drones firing Black Dust instead? Same point value? Same stats with Barrage 2?? yes. I never liked the instantaneous viral zombie rage concept. Okay, then what is the Royal Scientist firing?? Black Dust with a 5" or back down to 4" AoE?? Just curious - I don't mind the change at all. |

Look forward to the AAR posting of coarse. Any thought about 'illumination' shells?? With you permission I'll add you special rules to the optional section of the LRbook.  Here is what I was thinking.
Artillery unit that can see the target or HQ unit with line of sight can call for a battery to fire illumination. Roll to hit with +1 for each tube firing. Successful hit means target is illuminated. Any unit or element within normal weapons range can fire on that target.
If fog is in effect the visual range to that target only is increased 10 inches.

Martian Turn 3 Harvester arrives southern sector (roll 8). Last slaver arrives with a roll of 10 - placed into southern sector 8 in order to potentially gain control of drones from the crippled reaper. In the northern sector the slaver double moves with drones to assault armored infantry failing to score a single hit. With considerable effort the last gun positions are destroyed by heavy heat ray fire. Black dust from tripod spray and grenadier bombardment destroy an MG unit by the gate. Sniper drones engage MG turrets on the gate but do no harm.  In the southern sector the arriving slaver with drones (no losses to the river) double move and make short work of the surviving infantry stand. Reaper claws and heavy heat ray fire breach a barricade section. Scouts further whittle down the barricade previously damaged. The armored infantry at the end of the trench line survive massed drone and sniper fire. Arriving slave and drones kill the remaining infantry stand behind the lines.  Second movement phase the Martian elects to movement roll off the reaper at the breach to clear the gap and perhaps go at the Westinghouse wires. The roll off is US Army 10, Martian 6 - the US Army player moved the reaper straight into the wires. Effect roll is "10" - zap - the reaper is consider electrocuted and destroyed in place. The veteran tripod begins to run the gap. General repositioning occurs as drones line up for an assault next turn.  |

Turn 4Visibility - 20 inches , roll green 8 and red 8 - visibility now 30 inches and new baseline. Initiative - Human 7 (+ 1 for reaper) = 8 , Martian rolls 5 US Army turn 1
Two orders tokens are expended for industrial might to place an MG unit and armored infantry unit into the reinforcement pool.
Tank HQ platoon arrive with fueler and ammo tender. The MkIII platoon also arrives and uses the cargo fueler movement bonus. An infantry HQ comes out of hiding base of observation tower and calls for heavy arty battery fire on the veteran tripod and surrounding drones. No damage. Infantry assault and Mark II fire is ineffective. As well. Armored infantry kill the last scorpion.  In the north fire is concentrated on drones for only a single kill.

Martian Turn 4 Harvester #3 arrives in sector 6 as reinforcement (North) . Grenadier #3 arrives sector 7 ( center) . North Sector.
MG unit finally succumbs to black dust from guided black dust bombardments. The armored infantry is destroyed by a combined harvester and drone assault. Medium heat ray fire and the full fury of the Dominator create a new breach.  South Sector
An armored infantry squad and infantry squad in reserve trench line fall to drone assaults and massed medium heat rays complete another breach. The veteran tripod advances beyond the gap while heavy heat ray fire opens a wide path through the Westinghouse wires. The HQ unit survives a guided black dust attack. The two MG turrets on the gate finally go silent from shock and sniper drone fire.  Second Movement PhaseMartian forces exploit the three beaches in the barricade line and begin the move to the river bluffs.  |

Turn 5Visibility : 30 (red 10 -4 green) - 24 inches Initiative - US Army - 9 , Martian - 3 US Army turn 5
5 Orders tokens are expended to place 2 armored infantry, 1 HMG team and 2 infantry units in the reinforcement pool 1 armored infantry arrives from reinforcement. South Sector -Hvy arty (HQ spotting) and field arty fire falls on the veteran tripod and lead scout , The lead scout is riddled with 4 hits and mobility damage from tank fire. The veteran tripod companion drones are destroyed by MG fire.  North sector - An infantry HQ comes out of hiding to call Hvy arty fire on the breech site. The harvester takes weapons damage. The armored infantry score a lucky hit on a passing tripod. Infantry assault on the Dominator fails.  Martian Turn 5No reinforcement ( one assault tripod still in reserve) South sector - Guided black dust bombardment takes out two field guns and a Mark III. Heavy heat rays only manage to destroy a single mark II. The drones are now crossing barricades in a big way and overwhelm an infantry unit left in the trenches and kill an MG unit by the house.  North Sector. The Dominator easily blasts away the Westinghouse wires. The sole armored infantry still in the outside trench is hit and routed by drone assault ,guided shock drone fire, and heat rays. Second movement phase sees them scattered. The harvester gobbles up the infantry unit .  Second movement phase - the Martians appear to be unstoppable.

Turn 6
Visibility = 30 -( red 8 and green 2) = 24 inches Initiative Us Army 6 vs Martian 1 US Army - Two MG teams and armored infantry team arrive as reinforcement. Last four order tokens are use to place 1 armored infantry, 1 MG and 2 infantry (1 w/ FH) units into reinforcement pool. South sector - Mg fire from MG teams and Mark IIs bring down the wounded scout from sheer number of hits. Massed fire on the veteran tripod just cracks the armor.  North Sector - The Dominator is just out of visual range of the heavy arty battery and the HQ unit so arty fire is directed at the breach. Two drones are destroyed. A MG unit comes out of hiding and fires on a harvester without effect.  Martian Turn 6
The last tripod arrives as reinforcement in the southern sector. South Sector - Tripods heat ray everything with range - the Mark IIIs survive a heavy and medium heat ray sweeps . 4 more Mark IIs are lost. No grenadiers are yet in range of the heavy artillery batteries. The infantry platoon survives massed light heat ray and shock drone fire. The slaver with drone help shoots down the impeding electric lines  North Sector. The Dominator advances on the river bluff and manages to destroy a heavy howitzer. The pesky HQ unit and two infantry elements fall to three directed grenadier black dust attacks. All field guns survive a black dusting attack.  Second movement phase - grenadiers and tripods positon for an coordinated attack on the bluffs.

Turn 7
Visibility: 30 - (red 10 - green8 ) = 28 Initiative + 1 for destroyed scout -1 for lost HQ US Army 8 Martian 4 US Army Turn 7
US Army receives as reinforcements 2 infantry units (one with FH) , one armored infantry and MG unit North sector Hvy arty misses the Dominator MG teams and field guns further damage scout  South Sector The veteran tripod is further wounded but at the expense of depleting the ammo tender. Further damage scored from infantry assault and MG fire from the bluffs.  Martian Turn 7 South Sector - Martian shooting is abysmal - Mark IIIs survive another sweep attack. The gun line comes under directed grenadier bombardment for only loss of a single MG team. The lone forward infantry unit is overcome by a mob of drones but successfully screens the lone field gun that will not die. Unfortunately the command tank is destroyed.  North Sector - The Dominator destroys the command tower with quad laser. The black dust tripod double moves but heavy guns survive the black dust attack and two heavy heat rays. Field guns are lost to harvester assault,  Second Move Phase: The Martians enter the woods in hopes of winning initiative and getting off board before more US Army reinforcements arrive.
