I would prefer a thicker material, regardless of what it is. The current plastics seem like they'd snap easily if caught on something. Wood is probably better than acrylic for paint purposes.

Here here. I suppose a mix of plastics (from box sets provided) and wood will be my fate.

I'm in talks with both Renedra and a local guy, I'll let you all know how the situation unfolds.

I use both the Renedra bases and equivalent sized wooden bases for some items. You can buy same sized wooden bases at the craft store (Hobby Lobby or Michaels) for some of the sizes. Where I tend to use wooden bases are for drones and for tripods that did not come with bases. There is even a wooden base like the infantry command base that works very well for the reaper. To be honest, my choice for wooden bases on the drones were due to the flexing on some of the drone round plastic bases. By having the thicker wooden base I was able to make it possible to handle the mini by grabbing the stand instead of from the figure itself. Admit it, grabbing drones by their body and exerting pressure (like in picking up the mini) is a leading reason for drone explosion syndrome due to the way the mini is made.
Beyond that, as a flames of war player, I would actually like to see a change that moved away from the ridiculously long infantry stand to something that was the same size as the FOW stands. Not only do they fit carrying cases better, but they would fit into 15mm and HO buildings much easier. I believe that the Rager bases are actually square and about this size instead of long.

I, too, thought the long infantry bases were odd as well coming from the FOW universe. But I came to like the "line up and charge" World War I appearance for the US conscript army. The longer bases can give the 3 element infantry unit a large foot print.
Be that as it is. I did base my British infantry on FOW bases to give them a different more "professional" look.

As mentioned before, I don't use the long stands if I can help it. I base my infantry types on stands of 20x20mm, 40x20mm and for the MG 40x40mm. Combine two 40x20 & one 20x20 or two 20x20 & one 40x20, you can have the same frontage of 100mm and the MG unit fits much better in trenches and the like. I admit I use Litko laser cut wood bases for these. I've also bought the plastic stands as well and will do some of the units (primarily BEF) on the plastic on the same 20s and 40s above. I even go with a rectangle vs oblong command base. As long as the area of the stand(s) are similar (for AoE effects), its not important you necessarily use the bases provided - although these have the advantage of being 'free' or at least already paid for. In any case, you should base figures on what works best for you. And of coarse, what you want is a better game.

Plastic, please. I have been using plasticard for bases for years. Never a warp or delam.

Here is an example of the new bases, laser cut acrylic, with and without the masking tape. It was the solution that I needed: sourced locally and quick turnaround time. Also I have a large oval base that all non-plastic/Harvester Tripods will now be shipped with. -JOe

Does paint stay stuck to it?

It takes spray primer and paint pretty well. -Joe

If you leave the base clear, it'll just show the scenery below it... Ooooo -- less basing we have to do.

Does paint stay stuck to it? I've used acrylic a lot for access hatches in model radio control warships. It's best to sand it with a fine wet and dry type paper of 200-300 grade before priming. Auto primer will hold better than on the smooth surface based on my experience.

The assault, scout, and veterans came with a 75mm round base. Will the still have that?
