I don't have my AQMF rulebook handy, but the Robotech RPG Tatics game allowed you to use Order Tokens to try and steal/counter-steal initiative. Does AQMF have this? If not, I think we should add it. The BEF special rules allow using tokens to buff the initiative die roll. One of the joys of corresponding with all you folks is that I'm always finding out stuff I'd missed in reading the rules. Page 133 for example - thank you, thats brilliant! So would it be fair for any radio based command units to do this?? Say, the USA MkIIc if acting as FC or a Conqueror Command Tank? Of coarse the receiving unit must have radios as well, but, this really kicks up the order token in my opinion.

I thinks it's meant to reflect not just radios but the training and doctrinal approach of the BEF. Something unique for use of order tokens by that particular Army. Much like the Industrial Might rule for the US.
For example - the Prussian/ German Army could have an order token rule that reflects the storm trooper offensive spirit.

Good thought mike - I'd completely left out any kind of unique national stuff for my workup on the TO&Es for the French and Germans. I'll take a look at the armies again. What do you suggest for the above 'storm trooper offensive spirit'. I was kinda thinking along a 'repair' situation for the Germans, but that would be interesting as well. For the French, maybe a Elan for the rest of the game kinda of thing. Whats your (or anyone elses) thoughts?

I had a thought on another use for Martian command tokens. The Martians don't seem to get much use out of theirs beyond the double move. How about spending a command token to get a roll to repair a damaged tripod? Not removing basic armor hits (which would be a waste) but to remove those oh-so-annoying movement and fire control damage? Maybe one token will allow you to repair the damage on a 6-10 on a D10. No more than one attempt per tripod per turn.

How about spend a command token that allows the damaged tripod to leave the friendly board edge with no annoying roll off? Then placed in a reinforcement pool and then returns critical damage free per normal reinforcement arrival rules. This reflects the damaged machine going back to link up with a repair machine/ scientist tripod away from danger. Also takes into account variable length of repair time.

In Scott Washburn's trilogy, "Q" the Attack Force Leader, kept some tripods in reserve behind the lines to use in case of loss. This was due to the fact that there were not enough pilots to fill all the machines. I propose IF the tripod was not catastrophically destroyed, the pilot gets back to the reserve and appropriates a new one. Reinforcement rolls still apply for the tripod to enter as per the book rules. I would also suggest this applies only to scouts and attack tripods. The others are too specialized.... Respectfully, Gunny

Fellow AQoTMF'ers, Something else perhaps.... By spending a order token, the Field Commander for the Martians can "send" a software upgrade to a tripod giving them the ability to become a drone/lobo controller for the rest of the game.... Just another gray-haired thought, Respectfully, Gunny

Agreed, but not in this case. I understand the desire to 'software' upgrade tripods into controllers - however, there is absolutely no reason that this drastic measure couldn't be done to the entire Martian army. I have to be against such on balance reasons. On the second matter (sorry Gunny) I prefer to hunt down the Martian's that bail, and after the really good workup some folks did on transport vehicles for Martian pilots that have to bail, I also go against this idea. One of the few balancing parts of the drone & lobo horrors is that the human player has a good idea which tripods are controlling the bunch. To allow any of these changes would unbalance the game heavily in favor of an already powerful Martian army.

Spot on, madmorgan. Balance is the key consideration. Because drones are so overwhelming, the use or withholding of drones needs to be an agonizing balance of risk-reward. The controller must balance being close enough to be control, but that makes it vulnernable. Being able to replace a controller too easily means that the humans may face a hopeless situation in fending off a drone assault.
What balancing mechanism would allow humans an offsetting benefit? Make it very expensive? Or, with the likes of Edison, Tesla, Marconi, Maxwell, and Hertz around, perhaps radio frequency links might be rendered pretty tenuous. Jamming is probably easier than data transmission.

Well, if you can't take control, at least deny it to the user.
A bunch of drones wandering aimlessly could be as much fun as ones that go completely passive. They might be harder to round up again than a herd of cats.
