Yes your right. and there are some plastic and metal (Old Glory and others) that make various launchers that would fit the bill nicely. Indeed as this is a 'second generation' AQMF, they might look very different after all.
My third Grenadier model arrived yesterday. It's a complete kit but unlike the first two kits all 3 legs are identical - no single heavier leg as in the first 2 kits. I guess I should consider myself lucky that it has all the required parts for a complete model.

Grenadiers never came with bases even when I ordered mine way back when. Neither did the slavers, if I recall. Or the scientist. The bases with the full plastic tripods were meant for table top stability. I did put bases under all of mine for placing game tokens.
perhaps because the Grenadier had metal legs wasnt very tall and they thought it would be stable enough .Also nothing else would have used a base that size and AD liked to reuse as many bits as possible.
