From Facebook On October 30, 1938 at 8:00pm EST Orson Wells launched the radio broadcast of War of the Worlds. EXACTLY 85 years later, Abby Normal is launching the Kickstarter for Return of the Tripods, also inspired by the book by HG Wells. At 20:00 EST the Kickstarter will be live and you can start backing here: www.kickstarter.com/.../abb.../return-of-the-tripodsWe are incredibly excited and look forward to sharing this hobby with you soon!!

So excited for you all to finally get to see what we've been cooking up for 2nd Edition! And the trailer video is supposed to be absolutely fantastic when it drops.
I want to restate here what I've told others who asked about what our plans are for the game after this:
I am the lead sculptor for the game. I did the entire Martian TO&E (except the lobototons), and more than a few other models. And *I am not done* making models for more AQMF.

Well it's launched and I hope it does well.
But it is too expensive for me, the rulebook is dearer than what I pay for GW ones and the fact there are no shipping costs stated without even thinking about the import charges. Luckily I have loads still unpainted from the 1st edition and I didn't have a problem with the rules especially with all the info on this forum.

I find myself in the same position regarding the price, and I too have plenty of 1st edition to play some very big battles! I also have a concern about the change in the story. One of the things that attracted me to the game originally was the rich backstory that was set up. From the KS description it appears that the original invasion has moved from 1898 to 1904, and the second invasion from 1908 to 1917. It looks like WW1 was in full flow when the second invasion landed. It may be a good story, but I still love the original, especially when you add in Scott Washburn's excellent novels. And I'm a little nervous about the following... "Humanity has not been idle either. Scavenging the remains of the Martian's previous attacks, Humans too have learned. while most of the secrets of the Martian technology remain unfathomable, human ingenuity have enabled mankind too to invent new weapons of war and improving existing ones." I really hope that the "new weapons of war" don't include human walkers. Whilst I do like steampunk walking tanks, this game does very well without them. I wait to see.....

I will not be backing this personally.
The backstory of the steam tank and time line was a big attractor for me for the original game, that is gone here! The new line does not mix well with the existing models. The price seems a bit high, and the rule book is priced way out of line, in my opinion. The models are unproven being 3d printed etc. Time will tell on that one. How bashable are these to traditional modeling techniques?
On the up side, looks like it's off to a good start and I wish them well in their KickStarter.
I do see the possibility of using a few of the German models and bashing them back to the steam era, which would give me a 3rd faction for the classing game.

I made a prussian army using rules that madmorgan made which are all on this forum

I didn't realise they had changed the lore as I don't think they had mentioned this before , just like changing the scale from 18mm to 15mm which was only mentioned recently.

Having finally gotten a chance to look at the Kickstarter I can not decide on the three ways of doing it for me.
One way is to go all in and get the two army deal $300. Two is to buy the book and cherry pick units. Three is go digital as stated by Quendil above.
Pros and cons for all three above, Thinking it will depend on how much $ I will have at the end of the kickstarter.

The book is too costly for me but would be interested in picking up a few martians but with no shipping costs it's too much of a risk. Also Nov 2024 seems a long time considering they state everything is already done apart from the book layout

I was thinking the same about November 2024 shipping date.
I also was not sure about whom gets their stuff first. In one part it says Kickstarters will get product first, in another part it says they can ship to non-kickstarters at any time. I have seen that done in other kickstarters.
I do hope this is an successful and wish them well!
