I am sure many of use are familiar with the concept of Aeronef in Victorian Sci-Fi games such as Gaslight, Space: 1889, and others. They are a bit of the staple of the genre.
Has anyone considered adding 15-18mm aeronef into their games of AQMF? If we have Land Battleships, then perhaps we can have some dirigible or flying ones?
Thoughts?

Intriguing idea! We just need someway to rationalize how they stay airborne

I have no idea how they rationalize it in VSF, but there are some super cool models out there in 28mm scale.....
Hmmm..... perhaps more dirigible than warship is in order?

"We just need someway to rationalize how they stay airborne"
Stolen or copied Martian tech. Hard to explain with WW1 technology.

Having now been forced to educate myself (via Google) as to what "AeroNef" actually is And as I am currently reading "A Gathering Storm" I believe I will have to make some Zeppelins.
Just because I can.

Sorry, as much as I love Space 1889 (and I still have all the original stuff I bought way back when, have all of the reissued stuff from the KS and play Sky Galleons whenever I can), in my opinion Humans shouldn't have anything "steampunk". I don't feel that they would be able to reverse engineer Martian tech very quickly, but they will eventually (and that will be for a future game maybe?). The balance of the game is the vastly superior technology of the Martians against the vast difference in numbers the Humans have.

Reverse engineering of Martian tech will not be easy (as I mention in The Gathering Storm) but at the very least you have to HAVE some Martian tech to reverse engineer before you can even try. And since the Martians (so far) don't have any flying machines, the humans can hardly steal their technology to do so.

"I thought they had some sort of flying drone?" It hovers just above the ground.
Scott I know full sized Zeppelin is to huge for the game but I know the US had smaller ones. Can you work your paper model magic? Yes others make them, but you could ad a twist to it! Quick search came up with the SC-1 in 1908.

I was thinking of a smaller scouting version.. Maybe something on this scale.
But the extra big Heatrays in "The Gathering Storm" would probably be the death of them

But maybe not a functional idea, as even this one used for scouting after WW1 was 656 feet long

The Sea Scout blimps used by the British in WW1 were only 145 feet long. They'd make a great model. But we've been through this before and while I love airships I believe they are too slow and vulnerable for the battlefield. Their job should be strategic scouting and bombing and high speed transport. Maybe some casualty evacuation.
Of course Aeronef technology would make aircraft fast and well protected. Besides they do look very cool. So if you want them go for it.
I think a docking mast on a Landship for a scout blimp would be really cool.

Perhaps access to downed Martians provided a revolution in lightweight alloys that allowed Dirigibles to be "downsized" as it took less lighter-than-air gases to fill them. Therefore, being smaller they gained a more tactical role? Perhaps instead of Aeronef with huge cannons, they could carry HMGs and act as artillery spotters? Could also be interesting to come up with some rules for balloons too? I don't know. Just spit-balling..... Edit: I found this image for a 15mm balloon online...... Directions for the build are here: wargamingraft.wordpress.com/2016/11/11/building-an-acw-observation-balloon/

Also, here is a 28mm homemade 'Neff that got my gears turning for AQMF.....

Looks like I didn't educate myself in "Aeronef" very well. Damn you google. I just took it to be a term for Heavier Than Air Aircraft and didn't dig deep enough to find the game and mini's. With some vague memories of a Moorcock book about dirigible battleships added in. And to further my shame I neglected to investigate "Blimps". The Sea Scout looks like more of what I had in mind but in game terms I'm not sure of how it would / could be used.
