On an unrelated topic - I love pictures with other folks work areas. It always gives me ideas and its fun to see all the neat stuff people work with and on. I'm in lust of those backdrop photos you have of countryside behind the pictures! Thus far, I've only found seascape stuff at my pet store, but am told their getting in some new versions for the reptile section of the store (desert and jungle). Unfortunately my go to craft store moved away years ago - the place to go for model train stuff as well as RC and other craft stuff (plastic models yes, small). I'll check Walters as I'm sure there are similar back drops available still for RR modelers.

Gads what kind of resin did they use??!? Dawn liquid dish washing soap is my usual 'cleaner' for models as it really gets any oils off anything (heck they clean oil coated water fowl with it!). Any way, at what point do you start to erode the resin? I mean it shows silly - maybe just try an undercoat and hope for the best. Its still so shiny I doubt anything would stick, never come across it like this before. I will give it a few more hours in the dettol then scrub it and see if I can get paint to stick

Oh horrors!! Gads it almost as if you'd need to use an oil based paint to work it? Good luck!

You might try a gentle scrub with rubbing alcohol.
I have used it on resin parts and it seems to do OK without destroying the piece. Not a soak, just a scrubbing with a paper towel and plenty of alcohol.
Be a bit careful, though. A shiny part may not be due to residual mold release agent. It may just be a really smooth mold and the resin is just picking up that surface.

It is definitely something odd as paint it difficult to stick to it.

Finally got some paint on it but had to use several coats of Valejo surface primer to cover the head as it kept running off. Next to a Veteran Tripod

I found that using cheap primer tends to work better than all those other brands (Army Painter, Vallejo, etc)... I only use Rust-Oleum Satin Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Paint/Primer Spray - it's awesome and since it bonds to plastic/resin, it makes an awesome base for all my paints - Tamiya, Vallejo, Reaper, and the odd Army Painter paint.... I've never had any issue with this stuff sloughing off or not sticking to what I spray it on...

Hmmm I know they've started selling rust-oleum here in Australia, I'll have keep any eye out for it. Thanks for the tip!
The dominator is coming along nicely. The harvester in the background looks positively alive!
