Go ahead and start play even if not all your stuff is painted. Substitute frees by agreement, Ues "Counts as... "(by agreement with opponent) to try out new stuff even without the exact miniatures, Don't be sucked into the Games Workshop black hole of not being able to use a unit in the absence of the exact mini. In the hardcover rulebook there is an example of a cardboard cutout being used. while we are not hung up on having the exact model, I do not have any problem with substituting one thing for another. Neither does my buddy. However, I will not put a mini on the board until it is painted and sealed. I am a little more flexible on if the base is complete or not. My buddy will put his pieces on the table so long as they are at least primed close to the color they are supposed to be! 😆 there is just another reason why I don’t play any games workshop games. Warhammer 40 K still remains very popular in the Birmingham area. Thanks everyone for the tidbits of advice, I really do appreciate it.

I too, will not put unpainted minis on a table to play. Good for you!

Yes the points can be deceiving for your first few games I suppose!
