Looking East northeast at Bartlett Station , Tennessee. Martians chasing down a column of refugees hit a militia defense screen and arriving US Army , National Guard, and experimental weapons detachment.
The Martian clan leader Qetjnegrtis committed the heavy assault tripods to battle inside Memphis. To cut off the city from reinforcement and exploit the bounty of prey creatures he ordered the lighter scout tripods to escort harvesting machines east . One such Martian exploitation group collided with human defenses coalescing northeast of Memphis at Bartlett Station, Tennessee .
The initial defense is a militia company augmented with military police and even some farmers attempting to hold a defense along an Westinghouse electric wire barrier. The 2nd Tank Division by a minor miracle of logistics was able to travel by train and unload early in the morning. The division’s cavalry squadron was dispatched to recon and clear a path towards Memphis for the rest of the division. The US Army Ordinance Command had a forward field testing site just outside Memphis. The test ground had just constructed the initial string of Westinghouse electric wire near Bartlett Station. Also initial forward field trials of the new Tesla electric artillery “lightening gun” and anti-Martian proximity mines proved promising and both prototypes were rushed forward for a baptism by fire.
I was thinking of re-basing mine to two 3 man and one 4 man base, for a total of three bases and 10 men. Most squads were ten men each. The bases will be approx. 2 1/4" by 1". Does this look like a good idea or a waste of time?
Not sure about the time needed j, but I based all mine 20mm square Litto pine bases. Thickness is a matter of taste, as there are three depths for the bases. There's lots of latitude to this method. Two stands of 4 (2 front, 2 rear) and a stand of 2 = 3 hits kills. Three stands of 3 with the sergeant on the backside of one (again = 3 hits kills). Works for the Brits as well, but, I'd use the Two & One stand so the special weapon is more isolated. Note that MG units work as well on this basis. The added benefit is they now fit into the trench line easier. All this allows better placement in terrain and buildings and also better movement across the table vs the cumbersome 100mm stands. 2nd edition will see the changes of smaller infantry stands.
