I can't fine the discussion about the various 2nd gen Lobos - here's the idea I had, which takes the human meat right out of the equation.
CABD Unit: 1 element. Price per Unit: 60. Type: Infantry.
Speed 6" Defense 5 Armor 7 Special: Requires Controller (12" range) ; Tough - takes 3 hits each
Light Heatray: Range 10" +1 Power RF 3 Special: Rapid Fire 3 (3 shots per element per phase).
(3) Brawler: +1 Assault Special: attacks three times at +1 per assault.
Comments: The 2ndGeners wanted to replace the Lobototons with a upgraded all machine unit. The 'Controlled Antiinfantry Bipedal Drone' is their answer. The CABD has better alloy for protection (Armor) and a much improved reaction time (Defense). Coupled with a fast firing light heat ray and programming with martial skills copied from prey-that-stings sources, the CABD squad of 1 element may seem an easy target, but its every bit the equal to a full 15 figure Lobototon squad. It can take an amazing amount of punishment and still function. It is literally dropped from the Overseer II to the ground and moves into position (per the normal 6" rules page 123), ready to start its march of doom. These units are introduced in the summer of 1916 with the Overseer II. They are scheduled to start replacing Lobototon unit with the Whippers in early 1917. More food for the 2ndGeners ! {I've wanted to replace the Lobototon concept for a while, thinking that the Lobos are a waste of food source. For the models, I use Rebels Shalur Mercenaries pack at $10.95 for 21 figures. I'll use the extra figure per pack for guards at the cylinder doors and maybe one left under an Overseer. Its important to note that this unit function every bit as a full Lobototon squad of 3 elements due to "Tough". It combines the light heatray fire and the slicer effect for assaults. It only lacks the shear numbers of two Lobo squad (one each Blaster & Slicer). Although the 2ndGeners wanted to replace the regular drones, they haven't finished a design yet that incorporates the Reaper Tentacles so vital for food gathering. For now its enough to replace the Lobos and gain the increase in foods for their growing populations. Point cost is 20+20 for both fire & assault functions in one squad and 20 for other overall improvements.}
I realize that 2nd ed will have the 'combo' Lobo (Slicer&Blaster); this gives you the option to have a second type of unit on the field. As a correction, the squad size is 5 figures - so you get 4 full squads per pack with the extra 1 left over mentioned above. I think a nice mix of the combos and CABDs on the field would make any Human player feel dread. Alternately you could have 7 full squads of 3 each. As usual, you need a Controller to use these - probably best to have two controllers. These will be very powerful on the battlefield and should be the attention of several batteries of artillery.
Typical 4 squad organization : (4) CABD squads @ 240 + (2) Slavers @100 = 340 points.
Typical 7 squad : (7) CABD squads @ 420 + (2) Slavers @100 = 520 points.
The more balanced approach is the 7 smaller squads. These things are much harder to kill - fewer numbers help. Enjoy & let me hear so thoughts about the above please
