Thought I'd show you AQMF'ers a couple shots of the two new gunboats I assembled over the last two weeks. These are the paper terrain gunboats Scot has produced and what can I say? They're the bee's knees! The second kit went faster and smoother than the first. I did strengthen the tripod structure on both with a bamboo skewer cut to fit the inside of the angle iron of the observation fire towers on the superstructure. The machine guns are leftovers from the tank kits and the crewman are from shapeway. The officers are for ambience and to make sure everyone stays at their posts! I did add a base to give the impression of motion and well, I'm a softy for old memories of many a day standing on the stern of many a naval vessel! I think it topped off the look of the whole model and added some strength to the same... I wouldn't suggest you do this kit without some modeling experience, just sayin' . I prolly will get a few more turns in for the BATTLE OF TRAVERSE HEIGHTS today, these ships will be part of the next scenario escorting some landing barges (which are in the shipyards as we speak, gettin' fitted out) and marines for a river assault and landing. The next scenario will be ESCAPE OF THE MARY CELESTE and is roughly based on the Tom Cruise movie and the ferry. I will be testing out the civvie rules dealing with mass migration to a civilian ship trying to evac the nearby town of SUTTON'S BAY, stay tuned kids! Respectfully, Gunny

I am in awe of what you can get done in two weeks. Beautiful models.
What did you use for the bases? Some really nice water effects.

@ boxholder: It's called fun foam. You can get it at any craft store. First coat it with Aleene's Tacky Glue which seals and coats. Then dabble Modge Podge to give it a wave texture. Glaze with a blue Citadel blue glaze. Then I shade with another Citadel Shade called Dragonhof Nightshade(?). The wave effects are white Delta Ceramcoat mixed with caulk and sand to give it texture then dabble in wave forms. Theres tons of photos on Google Images to give you an overall view of how a ship moves in different kinds of water. Its very flexible and doesn't crack or curl at all. Forgot to add that I used a dark blue base color of fun foam to save a step! I don't add the ship on the base until I get ready to do the wave effects! Respectfully, Gunny

Damn fine work there!! Bully! What was the Shapeway designer/product code for the figures please? Looking forward to the battle report on that action. Was really well done in the movie.

@m Squared: Sorry old Boy, didn't save the code. They were 1/100 scale WWII sailors. I don't know if they were worth the money but not much out there right now. Sorry if that doesn't narrow it down for ya but bought them a long time ago. Nice detail but a little brittle. YMMV! Respectfully, Gunny
