I am sad to see some of the old Tripod design is dead. I really loved that old Tripod! I do, too. But I do like the new look. Certainly much more alien.

I would be more encouraged if there were something more than a "puff piece" on the site.

Now it is more than two months without any updated information on the new edition.
Businesses do not have unlimited resources and staff both to maintain operations and to engage in development of new products. However, it appears that Abby Normal is just letting AQMF atrophy. As they do this, the value of the AQMF intellectual property deteriorates.

It is a shame. Maybe it is a west coast thing? The seem happy with keeping it local. Which is great if you live near by.

well. there is this whole thing about there not being a way for most people to play in person yet, its quite possible that they arent putting much resources into the game right now due to the whole covid thing, and it might take them a while to spin up again when its actually over. also i wouldnt really say its atrophying or loosing much value since the game is in its current state dead. i expect they are trying to not make the same mistake as the last company did which was re release a failed product with no changes. it really would be foolish to re launch a product line that has already failed twice due to poor management at a time where a lot of people wont be able to enjoy it.
that said it would be nice if they would just pop us a post every once and a while letting us know that we arent forgotten and that they arent abandoning it. i understand if they dont have any news really but just posting something on a schedule (that we know is a schedule) would go a long way to keep faith. dosent have to be monthly and dosent have to be detailed but a quarterly. "keep calm and martain on" would go a great way to help a lot of us do just that.

For what is worth:
AQMF did not come up short due to real mismanagement. The Initial KIckstarter got 6 TIMES the target funding ($300+K vs $50K)and promised some significant benefits to backers, This was so overhelming that it was probably irrecoverable. There was no way that they Alien Dungeon could scale up to that level. Instead of making a plea to the backers for time, AD tried to honor the commitments by personal labor of the company founder. That turned out to be too big a job and bankruptcy followed. The successor company acquired the assets and IP, but despite good intentions never expanded the line. It appears that they were content to sell off the existing inventory and let the line stagnate. The third (current) holder, despite good words has not made real efforts to rejuvenate the line.
My statement "atrophy" refers to the interest in the AQMF product line. If you have no product, nobody will be interested in the line. The longer that there is no product, the more the interest decays away. Clearly, the concept has attraction, but even true-believers will give up hope. They will either continue to play with existing miniatures or will abandon AQMF and move on.
Interestingly, in both of the previous cases the holder of the IP "went silent" before the end.

there was mismanagement with alien dungeon, they admitted to as much, though not of the negligent or malicious variety. they put funds and time into expanding the line, designing new factions rather then finishing what had been paid for by the backers, they also didn't put funds into marketing and promoting the game outside kickstarter like they should have. in addition they used some of the funds to attempt to design and launch yet another game before they had finished fulfilling the promises to their backers with AQotMF. so the funds that we put into the game to help make it a success were NOT spent on the things they should have been. which ultimately caused the collapse. all of that was done out of inexperience and not any deliberate maliciousness. i do not hold any ill will towards those from AD.
your statement about the second company is mostly accurate though i would argue that not promoting or even continuing to produce the models and the destruction of many of the molds was mismanagement.
as for the clarification on the "atrophy" i understand what you are saying and if this was 3 years ago i would agree. but i feel that any further loss of interest in the previous version at this point is ultimately irrelevant as far as the IP is concerned, there generally aren't enough of us to really make a dent in the long run either way (only 37 users have been on the forums so far this whole year). at this point when the new version of the game comes out it will have to be advertised either way in order to be successful, they CANNOT rely on the reputation of the brand partly because its tarnished by the prior failure and partially because most people out there haven't heard of it. the fact that they have ever said anything at all about what they hope to do is more than they had any obligation to, the fact that they make the rules for the old version available for free is HUGE. they have done a lot right by us as the fans of the IP that they had absolutely no obligation to do. but at this point they dont need to communicate with us, they need to work on things and get it useable. sure id be nice if they said something every so often but im not expecting anything for a while and im not surprised or dismayed by the silence. and Im not expecting the new version to release anytime soon either, but i am expecting another Kickstarter or pre order system and a marketing campaign to try and make it a success this time. and when it happens i will spend hundreds of dollars again. because like you i love the IP and i WANT it to succeed.

Good points there.
One could call it "mismanagement" to attempt to salvage the situation by personal effort as Mr Baker did. He gets some credit for a valiant attempt.
One point about another KIckstarter: It will probably be difficult to "sell" users on the concept again having burned the previous "true believers." I hope it will make it on another attempt, but am wary
One other observation: How much effort is needed to produce a few lines of text to say "We aren't dead yet."

thank you.
agreed on both points.
i understand and agree though they may try using a different crowdfunding platform. also the current owners will likely point out that while the prior backers were burned it was a completely different company.
very little i agree. but as i dont really know what kind of personnel pool Abby has or what impact the pandemic has had on them im hesitant to judge.
honestly, i am apprehensive of the games future. i would really like updates, as ive mentioned before. but i deal with long silences on beloved franchises often so im not going to fret over it. i just find something else to occupy my time and check back here every so often.

They are not dead yet. With Covid the playtesting of the final rules and stats went to a halt. Did my first playtesting of latest rules and stat changes and was great to not only see the new stuff play better and smoother but also to finally play again.
Hope to see a post soon from the company here too.
