On You Tube I saw a montage from the BBC on their upcoming season. Showed a glimpse of the tripod from the upcoming miniseries.

Latest info from a guy in the know, in response to a lot of bickering on a WotW Facebook group...
Concerning the BBC series of The War of the Worlds. There is no official release date for the series because there has been NO official release date. All because a few seconds appear in a show reel is NOT an advertisement that the series is out in a matter of weeks time. If the BBC had released a trailer stating the following "The War of the Worlds - Out January 2019" then there is a reason to show concerns over to why the month has passed and no broadcast. Is the series in trouble? NO. Why do those think that it is? Because the BBC have not released a broadcast date? I will address the comments made about the production from the DigitalSpy article. They state that the production has been in the works since 2015. That may very well be the case in terms of "shall we do an adaptation of TWOTW?"), but 2015 was NOT the start of the production date as the copyrights to H.G.Wells The War of the Worlds novel was STILL under copyright laws. The copyright expired on the 29th December 2016. It was announced that the screenplay was under way in 2017 and with the BBC and other production companies contracted to other productions the principal filming of The War of the Worlds could not start until April 2018 and wrapped in late May. Bearing in mind that the main actors are contracted to OTHER film productions, such as Rafe Spall with Universal Pictures for Jurassic World II. Post-production on this series is clearly time consuming given the level of special effects needed. There is also the sales of the series outside of the UK which has exceeded 80 countries. These countries require the series to be edited for them, language for example, and the potential for disc sales which we already know the series is earmarked for, at present, a release in the UK on disc. The War of the Worlds is not the only production that the BBC are releasing as their showreel includes many other programmes that have yet to be given a broadcast date, TWOTW is include in this lot of programming. Is the series in trouble? Well if people take onboard what paying sites publish as fact, that is their prerogative. Afterall these sites are paid for reporting - what ever the story is. The BBC and production companies involved have invested far too much in the series and will have it released when it ready and the BBC have finally come up with a workable broadcast date. Fans willing it to be released sooner than later is not helping. That is a personal choice and the production companies investing in such a series are less concerned about peoples impatience and more concerned over finishing and finalising the production in the right manner. Is the series coming out? YES When? Only the BBC know the answer to that question. Until then we ALL have to wait for the news and as the BBC have NOT released any broadcast dates there is really no concern as the showreels are just that, showreels to show what is in store and coming soon from the BBC. I am contact with the production company involved with the series. They are fully aware of the fan base as much as they are fully aware of the production of the series. As they are contracted they CANNOT release ill-informed information about a *possible* release date because that goes against their contractual agreement. They promised to keep me updated. I can only go by their promise and as of yet there is no news on a broadcasting date because the series has yet to be finalised for broadcasting.

From what little I can gather about the series it will be set in the Victorian era as the original novel but probably not following the same story line. I could be very wrong but it will feature main characters caught up in the invasion but not mentioned in the novel.

I could be very wrong but it will feature main characters caught up in the invasion but not mentioned in the novel. It is still a little confusing, as I've seen it's a little later (Edwardian), and the couple at the centre of the story are a married man and the woman he is having an affair with. The woman is supposed to be a "very strong woman", and my worry is that the BBC are going all PC on the story. There's a fan page on Facebook with lots of info, but it's a closed group. Let me know and I'll invite you...

Saw this myself. Certainly an interesting looking design for their tripods! Was kind of hoping for a perhaps, more, Jeff Wayne's style but I'm curious to see where they go with it.

I for one am going to be very patient about all this. When it is released is a mute point here unless BBC America picks it up - which doesn't always happen. I've got too many irons in the fire to wonder about a 'sometime' release. I'll be extremely happy when BBCA picks it up.

BBC has got PC priorities. Consider all the LBGTQ characters lately, as well as sometimes "forced" racial diversity. I rather like it. On the other hand, I don't want to see Queen Latifah cast as the Duke of Wellington. (Might work, She has the range.)
I like to see strong women. They were always there. Victoria was no shrinking violet to be sure, nor was Elizabeth, Mary Queen of Scots, etc. It's even better to see female actors who can act and not just fill out a costume.
What I've seen of War of the Worlds, little teasers to be sure, is some frighteningly good costumes and effects. Talley Ho!

One of my favorite shows (Sun at 9 on PBS) is "Victoria" - excellent acting, grand views and interesting historically accurate. Two most recent episodes deal with the outbreak of cholera and the Ireland question. I seem to recall a series on Elizabeth - once again extremely well done. It did an excellent job of explaining why she 'married' the crown, as her young heart was broken, forcing her to become the stern white faced queen.

heres my worry its the bbc they car't scifi these days as they have consistently proved , (bbc wales is another thing ) what we might end up with is a period drama (which they love to do over and over again) with the odd rare tripod seen in the distance, mostly because they love the money that scifi makes but hate spending the money needed to make it look good
