Hey all, first real project submission. A few months ago I ended up buying a royal scientist on eBay since I thought its cool abilities and stats would make it a fun kit to try. So, a bit reluctantly (since the kit is all metal and resin) I made the purchase.
It arrived a few days later but much to my initial disappointment, it turned out the kit was missing a good portion of some of the more vital pieces. These being the heavy heat ray, the heat saw, the small metal "gubbinz" piece that sits right about the central eye, one of the "drone controller horns" and the vial like underbelly canister for the purple virus bombs. So, I got to work on making some improvements. Also please don't mind the greenstuff work. Still a bit new at it so its not he best to look at right now. The legs fought me a good lot before I was able to get them into place.
The first of these was trimming down the reaper claws. The ones I got were, in my opinion, were way too long so I trimmed them down, making them look a lot better and a lot less unstable. Keeping the two extra bendy tentacle wires for later use and another project.
The next step was constructing a substitute for the heavy heat ray. Using part of one of the reaper claws, along with one of the green gas bombs and the claw that holds them from the plastic Assault Tripod, plus a bit of cardstock rod for the nozzle, I was able to put together what I think, once painted, will look like a bit of an experimental heavy heat ray, plus the ray itself is on a ball joint so the nozzle can be posed, along with the tentacle wire.
In between steps, I added another piece of large rod to act as the heat saw, since I have 0 idea of what the unpainted saw looks like, I improved. Going to angle off the top a bit before I prime it.
Finally, I used a bit more of the green gas bombs from the Assault Tripod box, trimming it down a bit to make it less bulky, to create the purple virus bomb(s) which are pinned to the hull. I made use to keep the right most tentacle a bit longer than the left, well not that I had much of a choice considering it more or less snapped when I was working with it, so it could effectively "reach" to the bombs to grab them.
So those are pretty much all of the changes I have so far. I'm hoping a very close friend will be able to 3d print the "horns" since the one I got was bent rather badly, though I certainly wouldn't object to buying some of anyone has extras.
