For the last year or so I’ve been painting up a lot of American troops for my All Quiet on the Martian Front game. I painted a land ironclad and a squadron of cavalry and a battalion of infantry and a of of supporting troops. Totaling up the points I realized that I needed more Martians! I also needed to get my Martians organized. In my Great Martian War novels I decided that three tripods made up a ‘Sub-Group’ and that three ‘Sub-Groups’ plus a commander made up a ‘Group’. Three ‘Groups’ plus a commander made up a ‘Battle Group’. I didn’t quite need an entire Battle Group yet, but I decided that two full Groups would be about right. I already had six scout tripods and five assault tripods so I decided that I would add seven assault tripods to give me twelve. That would allow me to have one scout sub-group and two assault subgroups in each of the Groups. I also needed a commander for each group. At first I planned to use a Dominator tripod for the commanders, but after giving this some thought I decided against it. The Dominators are very heavily armed, with two heat rays a missile launching system. But a commander ought to be more focused on commanding than fighting. A commander was also more valuable and ought to be better protected. Fortunately, there was an ideal choice: a Veteran Tripod. The Veteran Tripods have heavier armor which makes them much harder to hurt. It does slow them down, but not too badly. Also, I like the way they look! So, I painted up seven assault tripods and two Veteran Tripods and now I have two full groups—plus two grenadier tripods, four slaver tripods and 44 drones. A very nice force! As you can see, I put LED lights in all of the new tripods to match the ones I already have. It is a bit more work, but the results are dramatic. I also needed to make an additional box to store them!
Ready for battle!

Sweet. The slavers, drones, and grenadiers are the Combat Support Group. You could add 2- 3 reapers, more scouts with designators, dominators, or harvesters to round them out. So three groups total for the complete Battle Group. Royal Scientist tripod as battle group commander.

Nice work on the force. It is a well reasoned structure that is consistent with the AQMF storyline.

The old x-acto foam board cutters would precisely cut a slot the thickness of a sheet of foam core exactly. Logan makes good foam cutting tools. It is a job to make all the slots, but better than repairing all your tripods.

Such gorgeous tripods! I love what you did for your Veterans, the armor plates look fantastic.

As usual, a superb job on all of them. I shudder to think about the point battle you could put on by now with all the various models (Human & Martian) you've presented here. I' sure TTG is envious of your work -perhaps they should use some of your photos in upcoming book products? Thank you for all the work you inspire me & others to do.

Madmorgan, I think you had a stroke of genius.
Graphic novels illustrated with Miniatures! Awesome.
Okay, fellow players: There exists Free-to-download software that can turn your cell-phone camera into a 3D scanner. I have been able to get5 a little done with this. Maybe I'll use it in my next full battle.

those are so freaking cool! I love the idea of the foamboard use those dividers. I will be stealing this idea as well. Do you put anything in the bottom or on top such as foam or bubblewrap? I would love to know how you put the LEDs in there. I have not started my Martian fours yet but I will definitely want to do that. Do you have a tutorial on here anywhere showing how you did that modification?
