Well, I'm still working on the next book of The Great Martian War series. One of the main characters will be an Australian soldier and I decided that I would build an Australian force for All Quiet to keep me inspired. Actually, what prompted me to start it now was that Flames of War was having a big sale on their World War I miniatures. I'm sad to say that I'm not a big fan of the official All Quiet British miniatures, The vehicles mostly look much too modern to fit into my steampunk vision of the world. Some of them are okay, like the monotanks and the armored cars, but the tanks look like they belong to World War II or the 1950s. So I bought a bunch of FoW British WWI infantry. I'm going to get a few packs of the WWII Australians with the bush hats and do a few head-swaps with the WWI figures. And I got ten of the Mark V tanks which I will add smoke stacks to to make them steam powered. I'm figuring that the Aussies would get a lot of the older equipment anyway, so this fits. I'll also be picking up some of the Slave 2 Gaming minis as well, as they are really great (albeit pretty expensive). Once I make some progress I will post some pics!

Well, I got all the tanks and machine guns and mortars, but the infantry and field guns were all out of stock! Sure hope I get them eventually.

I'm also more of a steampunk fan than a Dieselpunk fan, but somehow Steampunk, Dieselpunk and Art Nouveau always seem to get into a mashup. I would love to see StGs minis imported, as this would lower costs enormously. It's also adding to the joy, different minds think alike, but not identically.
More cool stuff. More is better.
I think the Soviet GAZ and Opel Blitz trucks of WWII look more WWI to me. Unfortunately, the DUKW does not. The Jeep is to iconic WWII, but the kubelwagon seems to work.
My tuppence.
The issue of Steampunk imagery is complexity. Exposed rivets, panel lines, exposed gears and shafts and tubes all add to the look. As Scott showed us, exposed rivets are a pain. They are hard to mold.
Aussies will find a way.
