For those of you not on facebook there is some discussion over the possibility that Ironclad games have sold AQMF. Gregg has mentioned that they were looking to sell the game and there has been no response from them in a while. Someone else has also mention that missing and replacement parts they are due have not turned up and they don't seem to be responding to messages. Someone else asked them about miniature availability and got a response to keep an eye on the website for news, with the email being signed off as Tabletop Hero Games. Now this is all speculation at the moment but we have had a new user GySgtDave who has a signature from tabletop games. Hopefully they will update us fairly quickly as after the demise of AD radio silence or crypt messages are really not helpful.

Gads, not again... I really hope this isn't so. Not because I don't think a new company might not do a good job, but because of the chance that some of the products won't transfer over (the Martian fences for example and IGs new bases). And what about the new rule books!? Is our game cursed? Such a fantastic idea and just not marketable? I'm suffering from low morale and painting blockage atm.

IG have said that new rules and expansions are on hold as the game was not selling well enough. But many people have said without new rules and expansions the game will not grow, you can't expect a flurry of new gamers by just releasing a few new miniatures. I don't feel IG wanted to put the money or time into the game so hopefully a new owner will release a 2nd edition to get interest in the game again.

My $0.02 worth: IG really does not need a lot of new products yet. A few new items can keep their existing base happy. BUT, they need to promote the basic AQMF game that they already own. It is a beautiful product. I have talked with several people and they were invariably intrigued with the concept. BUT, there was no product for them to buy or even to see. IG purchased a working game system, beautiful products, and very professional-looking packaging and printing-- certainly competitive with any of the other game products out there. Hence, many of the uncertainties and startup costs that attend the launching of a new product line were already resolved.
We have no way to know how large AQMF is relative to IG's other existing product lines. Nor do we know how much usable funding they have on hand nor the personnel that could be devoted to AQMF.
IG solicited us for names of game stores and I assumed that those would be targeted for promotional efforts. To date, I have seen nothing about AQMF at any of the stores that I recommended and shop regularly. No product, no samples, no posters, no handout cards, no fliers, nothing. Not even ads on Boardgamegeek despite high praise from the reviewers and videos there.
It is possible that we are the enthusiastic "early adopters" for the game system. The explosive response to the Kickstarter launch seemed indicative of significant demand potential. It is also possible that we early adopters may have depleted the initial potential pool of buyers. But that pool cannot be expanded without promotional efforts. People cannot demand what they do not know about. The 200 people or so that are registered at this site are not enough to support a product line, nor would the 1,000 or so who backed the original Kickstarter.

If anything, IG needs to assist the existing base to bring the game to conventions. They should also bust their bloody asses getting the game in STORES. Right now only warhamster is on store shelves.
and one more thing:

If IG has sold off their entire inventory (as it appears), they have no incentive to promote anything AQMF anymore nor to try to put anything in stores. That task now falls to whomever is the new owner/holder of the AQMF rights and inventory.
All of the discussion here is effectively too late to alter the state of affairs. The retrospective "shoulda--coulda" considerations do not change the business calculus that led IG to this decision. The matters are now entirely in the hands of the new owner.

That said, I hope the new owners check out this message board. I've made comments on how the owners need to promote this product range in stores and in conventions before.
I've built up a small local player base by putting miniatures on the table.

With the first implosion and how many suppliers and customers were burned then, plus now a second implosion, perhaps with less distributor damage. Are there going to be anyone willing to gamble A THIRD TIME? That's the 800lb. gorilla in the room I fear... There will have to be a influx of cash to promote before this takes off for new customers, so there is going to be some serious lag time before it creates demand. With there being so much "oooh, Shiney!" out there you've got to be willing to spend money to get customer's attention. I hope to stay optimistic but I fear the ship has sailed, so to speak...Scott Washburn's books may be a way to get additional attention focused on the game, so perhaps a joint effort?
Respectfully, Gunny

This is truly a sad state of affairs. The game has been well received where ever it has been displayed, especially at conventions. But, we might just be in a very small niche game with no future for a potential buyer. A final test of its appeal will be up coming at Fall In this year - only just a few weeks away (8 Nov - 11 Nov). With no company in house to push sales, and probably no demo because of that, things look pretty grim. Maybe Scott could get his publisher to print some of the Living Rule Book entries as a '2nd edition'?? I remain hopeful in the face of the storm, but, its getting pretty dang 'wet' around here

One hopeful sign that interest in the War of the Worlds may be a bit larger than just us: Dan Verssen Games (DVG) recently released WAR OF THE WORLDS: ENGLAND, a solitaire board game. It is one a a series that includes WOTW:FRANCE, WOTW:JAPAN and WOTW: EASTERN U.S. They are beautifully crafted products. And the card-driven mechanic captures the feel of impersonal, inscrutable, and implacable Martians attacking.
