Captain Smith shifted to a better position, keeping his binoculars trained across the river for any movement. There was a rumor of a new Martian machine that drafted all others and he both hoped and feared he'd get to see one. Dubbed the 'Overseer', it was said to be a true monster, with a new weapon and its own cadre of drones. It was his job to deal with the drones. He was confident they would hold the position. Not so much because of his forward command of MkIIMA guns, but, because of the shadow of the LIC over his shoulder. It was only last year that the LIC showed its stuff in stopping the Martian advance here. Today would be another tale. For good or ill, he didn't know for sure.
Location: Town of Natchez Time: Summer, 1915 Weather: Clear Table: Long end, running West (Martian) to East (Human). Terrain: One x Hill on each side of river withing 12" of West/East edge. River at midpoint, at least 4" wide. Note that due to extreme heat of the summer, its treated as shallow and fordable at 1/4 speed, rounded down (muddy bottom). Turns: 6 w/roll for 7th. Objectives: Martian - exit off East edge of board; Human - prevent that; Both - win by destruction of LIC/Overseer. Morale: Martian BP @ 430 pts ; Human BP @500 pts. Martian has first move.
Human - LIC Lincoln @ 750 pts + FC @30, B battery, Patton's 2nd Battalion MkIIMA [no HMGs] @ 220 pts. = 1000 points [3 Command Tokens]
Martian - Overseer @860 + FC @30 = 890 pts [2 Command Tokens] Overseer has compliment of 4 units of 3 Drones each for a total of 12 Drones.
First, I hope that this inspires you all to work and play battles with the heavies of the AQMF world. I plan on doing at least one more of these (Part 2) using the Goliath - maybe a 3rd with two Goliaths vs an Overseer or a mix mash of Goliaths and Dominators with support.
For this battle, I predict a Martian player will try to take out the MA battery first, then release his drones to do what they can in support of killing the LIC. The Human player can only hope that if his MA is destroyed right off, that he can really hurt the Overseer as its Sunbeam repowers. After that, its just a slug fist duel, with very little tactics. Even without its MAs, the LIC has plenty of HMG and smaller guns to take on the drones and the drones will have a go at the LIC. Perhaps just weakening its armor some? In any case, enjoy and thank you IG for making these big boys available!
